I took out my belly ring somewhere around 20 weeks! I kinda wish I would've taken it out right away- not crazy how it looks! But then I know women who got the pregnancy rings and kept their belly ring in the entire pregnancy!

Can't help with the other piercings- totally cluelessChat Icon

I would be more concerned with not getting anymore tattoos. And I would take the piercings out.

Re: Piercings and pregnancy

I personally would remove all peiercings. Your body is going to go through some major changes and everyone changes at a different rate. THe one down there is a def. a must to remove as im sure the doctor will tell you.

I took my belly ring out before I got pregnant. You can leave it in for a while I think but you'll eventually have to take it out.

As for the nipples, I have no idea. Down there--I would assume you wouldn't have to take it out right away. But as you get further along you tend to get swollen down there and I can imagine it probably wouldn't be very comfortable.

Re: Piercings and pregnancy

I don't have any piercings, but I would imagine that the nipple ones would really hurt. Even at this early stage. Mine are a little sore, nothing I haven't experienced with an AF, but anything hanging off makes me think it would irritate it more.

As for the belly ring, I remember a few girls on here got a PG belly ring and were able to keep it up until the 36th week or something like that. I have no idea about the other ring, but I hear you get purple twinkies down there. Chat Icon

Re: Piercings and pregnancy

I still have my belly button ring in---I just got a maternity ring (it's actually very cute and the doctors and nurses always comment on it when they see me for my checkups).

Your regular belly button ring will probably start to cause problems around 20-24 weeks, so maybe a maternity ring will be best?

As for the other piercings....your nipples AND your "other" pierced area are both going to start doing VERY strange things around weeks 10-20, so if I were you, I'd take them out. You can always get them re-pierced when you have your little one, or just re-pierce them on occasion throughout the pregnancy....just to keep the holes open. But, once you reach a certain stage in pregnancy, you won't be able to reach the "netherlands" all that well, so you may be best just letting those close for now???

Here's the post that I wrote in a while ago regarding maternity rings...

THIS is the one that I have, but if you check out HERE, you can see all the different ones this company has. Have fun shopping!!!

Re: Piercings and pregnancy

jes, i kept my belly button ring in my entire pregnancy. i got a maternity one towards the end because my BB started to stretch - it never popped though. although i had to take it out for my c-section, i put it back in the day after i delivered.

as for your other piercings, i would discuss it with your OB. there might be a risk of infection but honestly i cannot think of any reason why you can't keep them in while pregnant if you take extra good care of them.

A friend of mine also kept in her belly ring for both of her pregnancies.. I agree with the PP that maybe checking with your OB would make you feel better!

Re: Piercings and pregnancy

I took about my nipple piercings about 2 yrs ago because I was always concerned about how uncomfortable I would feel when I became pregnant, They healed up pretty well.
As for my belly button ring i've had for many years and I'm not giving it up, so i will invest in one of those maternity belly button rings.

Chat Icon she never mentioned anything about getting tattoos...Chat Icon

i took my belly ring out after 20 weeks or so ish, when it became uncomfortable. doesn't matter if you keep it on or not, the hole will be there and it'll stretch regardless if you keep it in or not, i would believe...

I took my belly ring out when I started to show but didnt want the hole to close so every once in a while I would pop it back through.

Re: Piercings and pregnancy

I removed the nipple piercing pretty early on. Ive had it for 10 years and the holes did not close up but they DO leak milk when the milk comes in.

I also got an acrylic ring for my navel and kept it long in the event my belly got huge. I didnt get HUGE per se, but I would take it out a few weeks or so before your due date. I ended up with an emergency c-section and I THOUGHT they would let me keep it in because it wasn't metal. I was wrong. Needless to say I had to try to take it out when I was in active labor having very painful contractions. Not fun.
