the WHOLE pets board makes me sad.....I never thought "pet" people would be so harsh!!  everytime I read a post I feel like Im being told Im an idiot and I need to be taught a lesson!!

Why is what you learned positivley right and what she learned so wrong...
What I have learned IS fact. TRUE breeders DO NOT SELL their dogs to puppy mills. I KNOW THIS b/c I KNOW a BREEDER. She is registered with the AKC, she SHOWS her dogs. She DOESN'T do it for the MONEY. I would gladly go to her for our pup, but she doesn't breed either type of dog I'm interested in. She has however, given me a TON of information to find a REPUTABLE BREEDER. NOT SOMEONE WHO SELLS TO A PET STORE.

She said her brother in law's aunt owned a puppy store!! Dont you think she researched into that pretty far before saying What that persons store did?
I have no doubt she's researched. All we're saying is that the information she's getting is skewed. Think about it. All the information she's getting is from sources with ALTERIOR MOTIVES. Allow me to list...
1. The pet store - they're in it for the money.
2. The vet - Sadly, but some could be in it for the money. Sick dog = VET BILLS $$$$ Sad, yes. But a possibility.
3. The website - Backed by it's advertisers = $$$$$
The only common thread I see is $$$$.

Are you serious with this comment?! So anytime you go to someone to ask advice or THEIR opinion, you go with whatever they tell you, and don't check things out on your own?! I totally appreciate everyone taking their time to tell me how THEY feel, and its all part of my decision making process, I DO NOT appreciate people trying to make me feel stupid or like an unfeeling person, so if thats what you want to do then keep your opinions to yourself! Why don't you all go ask your vets the same thing I did, she is an awesome vet, and I know many people who go to her, and MANY pets she has helped! So you believe that there could be no such thing as people who do breed to make money, but take care of the animals?! If it makes you guys feel good to think I support puppy mills, I OBV can't change your mind, but I and anyone who knows me knows I would NEVER do such a thing. People are NEVER going to stop buying from pet stores, most people have no idea about puppy mills, so something else needs to be done to stop these puppy mills, why don't we all put our time and effort into that rather then ripping people apart on this board!

Ok, and what about a mom from my sons school who went out of her way to find 2 reputable breeders with her 2 dogs, who 1 has hip dysplasia, and the other has to have surgery on her heart?! Is she just lying to, what money is she getting?! The only thing I'm trying to say is, there are no guarantees no matter where you get your dog from, and there is NO proof this dog is from a puppy mill. No matter what you people say....if Gloria Still is running a puppy mill with pics on the internet, why has noone gone to shut her down?! Shes not in hiding its all right there.....

Whether it is a regular poster or not (I say not), I think those of us who were trying to help the OP's friend to learn about puppy mills should let this thread die.
The proof is out there, some people won't accept it b/c they choose not to b/c they want what they want, or simply cannot comprehend the concept. And some even contort what we are saying. We tried, so I do suggest we let this thread die. It is obviously pointless and a waste of energy and all is gets us is grief.
I am done here, this is a joke and a waste of time.

People are NEVER going to stop buying from pet stores,
With an outlook like that, yes, you're right. Pet store puppy sales will NEVER stop. So please, go to that pet store and buy that pup. Don't make a difference.

most people have no idea about puppy mills, so something else needs to be done to stop these puppy mills, why don't we all put our time and effort into that rather then ripping people apart on this board!
But now YOU are one of the people that DO know about them and yet you maintain that it is ok to buy that pup from the pet store. Why?
I will tell you why, I fell in love with THIS puppy, I feel like I would rather buy it and give him a good home rather then someone else, and maybe they don't give him a good home. Also, noone has proven this puppy or this lady is a puppy mill, only that you think. BUT, if I don't buy this puppy, when I do decide to get one, I would try to adopt one. And I'm not sold on the reputable breeders, so far I have one friend whos cat came with ring worm, one friend whos dog wasn't a purebred like she was told, another who has hip dysplasia, and another who needs surgery, and these were all from supposed Good Breeders, not pet stores.

YOU have to be kidding me!! No im sure she wont jump off the brooklyn bridge that is a dumb comparison...she saw this puppy and it melted her she fell in love with it...wants to love it....take care of it...

Hello. I am just slightly educating my friend on puppy mills...but there is only so much I know. She fell in love with a chuwawa at the Sunrise Mall, in "The Pet Company". I've never been there before. She said that they have signs that say some animals are from NSAL and that the store is really clean. Also she read that not all pet stores are puppy mill dogs. Do you know anything about this store? Thanks!
To answer the OP - who has only good intentions - I would encourage her to look into a breeder or a rescue org.
I know people have already answered that question but it may have gotten lost in all the (ahem) "hoopla".

And she researched the breeder and saw pictures where the dog came from its not a puppy mill

You have presented me with facts on Puppy mills correct, but most of these same articles say MOST come from mills, not ALL. Also, my point wasn't that just cause these people are at the pet store I should be too, my point was so many people have no idea about puppy mills. I think I will choose to agree to disagree and if I ever need advice about my pets, I will ask my vet or a friend who will not make me feel stupid or lik a bad person!

Yes she is an AWESOME friend who has told me how she feels, but also told me she will love me and my puppy no matter where it comes from!
