Pencil skirts 101
Where do you purchase pencil skirts? Are you lucky enough to get them to fit off the rack or do you have them tailored?
Where exactly does the skirt sit above/below/or in the middle of your stomach? Or does that depend on the style of the skirt?
What styles of tops do you rock with pencil skirts? I've mainly seen the tucked in shirts with/without ruffles. TIA!

I've gotten them at Banana, JCPenney, Old Navy & JCrew. I haven't needed them altered, which is weird for me, but I think it is because I have a long torso and they fit me well. They fall right on my waistline so they skim my belly.
I wear them with anything: button-down blouses, fitted sweaters, even peasant blouses. If I wear something that is tucked in I will wear a chunky belt. I usually wear peep-toes or low-heeled riding boots in the winter: you can get away with no tights that way.
I find the best ones have a bit of stretch in them: they maintain their shape after a day of work.

You could also try a trumpet skirt: it looks similar to a pencil, but it flares at the bottom, they are great with blazers.

Re: Pencil skirts 101
My favorite one is actually from a suit that I got in Syms, it is made by Kasper. That sits kind of high, on my natural waist. I don't get them altered, but they usually are a little big in the waist, because they have to be big enough for the rear/hips.
I can't work the tucked in look. I have a high waist & a large chest, , so that combo makes looks like a head & boobs on a skirt.
I like to wear light weight sweaters--either v-neck or a cardigan buttoned up (I wear them like blouses.)
