Never used it. Is it secure? How?
I want to buy something using credit card from a stranger for a large sum so wondering how i am protected?

You are fine. Your CC company will protect you, as well as paypal, regardless if you bought something through ebay or not.

Yes, don't choose friends and family because then you don't get the buyer protection.
If you end up having to file a complaint, start with your credit card company. If you file a dispute through paypal and they side with the seller, it makes it harder to dispute it through the credit card company.

Yes, don't choose friends and family because then you don't get the buyer protection.

You can use PayPal. It's safe. I just wanted to warn you that if you use the "send money to family and friends" option (some sellers will insist on this because there is no fee that way), you will lose the buyer protection. You'll still have protection through your credit card though.
