passport questions
My passport expires in late February. I most likely have a work trip abroad the beginning of February. When is the best time to renew it and how? I read online that I can do it in person in NYC if I have a trip planned two weeks from when it expires (meaning you go there knowing that you need the passport in less than two weeks). I don't want to screw myself and wait til the last minute in case my trip dates change and/or they add another international work trip around that time. Also, we are going to Mexico in November so I will need it then too. Basically, I don't want to mail my original passport anywhere...that's what I think I have to do to renew it. Also, do they let you keep your old passport? I want to keep my stamps! LOL

Re: passport questions
I renewed my passport in July. I mailed it in July 5 and I got my new passport in one mailing around july 24 and my old passport around july 21. it probably would have been faster if it did not do that during the holiday or the summer.

Yep! I'd renew the passport sooner rather then later. Why stress, right?

I'd do it now before your November trip. That way you don't have to worry about it after.

Re: passport questions
Thanks everyone! I'm so happy they send the old one back! I might wait until right after we get back from Mexico, then I shouldn't need it for about 3 months.

I just heard that if the government shut down occurs (would be effective Oct 1), then there will be a really long wait for passports. You might want to look into that some more, but I hear it mentioned on the news

I've heard that some countries require the passport to be valid for a minimum of 6 months, if Mexico is one of these countries then going in November with an expiration of February wouldn't work, it would have to be at least May. You may want to look into that.

Re: passport questions
Do it now. I sent mine to get renewed in August and got it back in 10 days. You're better off doing it in advance so you don't pay extra fees. I think it's $110 reg processing. And another 65 to expedite

Thanks for all of the info, I had no idea about the whole six month thing. And now with the shutdown, ugh!
