Passport questions

DH misplaced his passport, and I lost DS' when my pocketbook was stolen a few yrs ago.

Can DH use his expired passport as ID? Or will be need anything else?

How long does it take to get passports again?

Also, how much does it cost now for adult and for minor? I can just to to the post office right? I know we both need to go for DS.....

Re: Passport questions

ID for what? I don't think an expired passport is good for anything.

ETA-I expedited DS' and it came in 10 days

Passport questions

You can go to the post office just check to make sure that yours does passports since not all of them do. They give you an estimated time for arrival and let you know the cost. All the paperwork is online and you have to take pictures. If you need it expedited it's extra$. For your DS both you and your DH have to be there. I *think* it's cheaper to replace a lost or stolen one than it is to get a new one.

Is the passport less than 15 years expired? If so, I don't think it's a problem, but it might be invalid because you have another, newer passport out there somewhere. Either way, you still need to report your other passport as lost/stolen and apply for a new one in person.

ETA: I got my info here. It isn't exactly clear since you have a bit of a unique situation. You might just be better off giving them a call- while the wait times are horrendous, I actually found them to be VERY helpful every time I've had to call.

Re: Passport questions

for your DH you only have to mail it in, it costs $120 (plus $60 if you want expedited) He needs his expired passport (as long as it is within 5 years) and new picture plud check for fee. I just did this and it took 3 weeks to get my passport back with the regular service not expedited. They said tehy were on a 3 - 4 week turnaround time (this was early december).

For your DS i think it is $80...i just did my DS for a first time passport and it was 80 plus 25 one time processing fee. We both needed to be their with our drivers license and his birth certificate. Not sure if it is different if you are just renewing.

DH & I just got passports. He had lost his and I had never had one. We got them in about 2 and half weeks. He had to fill out an affidavit telling the State Dept that it was lost. We did everything at the post office.

Depends on where you are going. Anywhere except Canada needs a current passport.

Regular time to get passports is probably 4-6 weeks, but there's a passport office in manhattan if you need an emergency passport sooner.

Not all post offices have passport services, but you can look online to find out if yours does.

Also, it's a bit more money but I would advise not getting your pic taken anywhere except the post office, we ended up having to get ours taken twice - and paying twice - because they wouldn't accept the first ones.

The dept of state website has the forms and will give you the prices.
