PACK N' PLAY VS BASSINET - xpost from "Pregnancy"
I am currently registered for both a PACK N' PLAY and a BASSINET...is this necessary? I plan on having the baby sleep in our bedroom for the first few weeks and have read that a lot of ladies have used the pack n' play for this?
Any advice? Should I just stick with the pack n' play or would the bassinet be best for the bedroom

A lot of PNP's have bassinets built in. I really didn't find use for a bassinet. If your room is big enough, the PNP will fit fine. If you don't have the room, then I would get a bassinet and a PNP without all the trimmings...

I think it depends on the setup of your house. I have a two story, so the pack n play was set up downstairs so I could change DS/DD down here and they could nap down here but I had a bassinet set up in our bedroom upstairs so they could sleep in our room at night. It is not necessary to have both, but I found it convenient.

I love the Fisher Price Rock n Play sleeper. It's cheap, light weight/portable(folds up) and my baby sleeps so well in it. It's on a 30 degree angle so it's good for a baby with reflux. Right now she uses the R&P sleeper for naps, night time and when we go to others homes. when she out grows it I will switch her to her crib and use the pack and play when we go out.

We got a pack n play that came with a bassinet since they are only in a bassinet for the first few months and then it would still have a use after that.

I also used the P&P ALL the time for traveling. I'd get both!

my ds is 7 weeks and I currently have him in the bassinet part of the graco pack n play (in our bedroom). up till a couple weeks ago he was in the newborn napper attachment. i almost got a bassinet cuz a lot of older moms couldn't believe i didn't have one and i'm so glad i didn't cuz i love my pack n play. best item we got for ds.

I used both.
The bassinet next to my bed. I was BFing and it was just convenient.
I had the PNP in the LR and left it there even after I was done with the bassinet.
I have 2 small dogs. They were all over DS. The PNP was for safety with the dogs.

DD slept in our room for the first 5 months and we used the bassinet part of the PnP (raised mattress). She slept great in it... no need for a separate bassinet too IMO.

I used both....and when we travel we always bring a pnp....i get skeeved by the idea of someone else having used a crib/etc we might get!

Same here - I think the bassinet is overpriced and a waste since you get so little use out of it.
We used a PNP in our den and one in our bedroom. When DD transitioned to the crib, the one from our bedroom went to grandmas!
The PNP we used that ended up at grandmas was a no-frills one (we didn't care about the pattern/color since it wasn't going to be out in the house) that had a bassinet and it cost about $35. All of the bassinets that I have seen are well over $100 - some of them are really pretty though

We registered for a PNP and have a family heirloom bassinet. To be completely candid, the bassinet was used as a storage bin and we used the PNP. I had it because my mom felt it was important to use it. So both of my kids did use it, but I found it so small that it was not super useful. Had we not had it, no I would not have gotten another one. I love our PNP. We used the changing table until the kids were to big for it. We used the bassinet part until the kids were to big for it and now use the lower part for DD when she wakes up at night to get her to sleep in our room. I feel like we have absolutely gotten our $$$s worth out of our PNP.

The bassinet was a waste of money. If I were you I would stick with the PNP that will also have a bassinet feature. I know some do not so make sure your PNP has it.

Same here. But we didn't use a bassinet in our room, we used a smaller PNP, I think it's a PNP lite. I figured if we needed DS to sleep somewhere we could bring it with us, instead of the full size PNP. (It never happened, but at least we were prepared!) A PP also suggested the FP rocker thing - that looks awesome as well! DS2 wouldn't sleep flat for the first 3 months and that would have been awesome.
