Re: pacifiers- yes or no?
They say not to give them a paci if you are breast feeding for the 1st 3 weeks... It has something to do with latching and the paci messes that up.... I am giving lo a paci since I am not going to bf

Re: pacifiers- yes or no?
I waited the 4 weeks the lactation consultant suggested with my first and gave it from the beginning with my second and they both latched fine and bf well. I am going to give it from the beginning with this baby unless I sense it is causing issues with feeding.

Re: pacifiers- yes or no?
is there a reason not to give them pacifiers that doesnt have to do with BFing? Like will it be hard for us to get rid of it later down the line or something? I dont want to create an addict lol I also read that pacifier use reduces SIDS.

Re: pacifiers- yes or no?
DS had trouble latching and so he had a pacifier but then I said no to it because I thought that was the issue. Had to use nipple shields and eventually weaned him off the shield and had no issues bf. DS had no issues with nursing, using a pacifier, and taking a bottle when I went back to work.

DD got a paci in the NICU. im not sure i wouldve given her one if she wasn't a NICU preemie. turned out at 4m she stopped using it and switched to her thumb anyway.

I see no problem with it as long as u ween the LO from it in a timely fashion because you don't want dental and speech issues that can be cause by a paci

The reason why they say not to give them to paci for the first 2-3 weeks if you are bf is to avoid nipple confusion. If you are not bf there should be no problem.

Re: pacifiers- yes or no?
I EBF and used a paci from day two after getting ZERO sleep because the hospital said it would mess up my DS's latch if I gave a paci..Also my finger was getting sucked raw from my DS always wanting to suck something lol. I have never heard of the pacifier interfering with breastfeeding in real world situations (at least from myself and my friends who also breastfeed). Next time I will bring some with me to the hospital.

Re: pacifiers- yes or no?
At my hospital they did not offer a paci at all for DD - they wont just offer it. I had some with me and tried them as she latched great right away...but overall she doesn't love the paci and we have tried 3 diff kinds. Sometimes I wish she would take one to help with soothing but she spits them out.

DD usually spits them out. It buys us time when she wakes up starving but usually she doesn't care too much for them. I think my dog likes them more!

Re: pacifiers- yes or no?
I say don't give them because they get addicted. And it's annoying as all get out!! Lol
H had one in the nicu and is addicted. Goes balostic if it falls out. B had one in the isolet one day and never needed it. (I only heard her cry 5 times in her first 2 weeks and one time was for a shot). She hated them at first but the dr said to keep trying. It's a SIDS preventer. Now she only likes avent. I just don't give them at night or when I don't have time to keep putting them back in their mouth 40 times an hour. I can always take them away later. It's better than them finding a thumb.

Re: pacifiers- yes or no?
You're worried about them falling out during the night and having a crying baby because of it, is that the gist? Where are you putting them to sleep? We had DD in the rock n play and her paci never fell out (or, very rarely). Once we transitioned her to her crib, she was able to locate it herself and put it back in shortly thereafter, so it was never really an issue. If you're starting them out in the crib though, i'm not sure. Also the "soothies" and the avent brand fell out more easily. once we switched her to MAM, they really didn't fall out (MAM brand are kind of contoured to the face, like curvy )

i guess? i dunno really. i dont want a paci addict and i dont wanna have to deal with taking it away later on. i didnt even know people say it can cause nipple confusion.

Re: pacifiers- yes or no?
My sons were circumcised and they gave it to them then. Never had issues with nipple confusion. I was so paranoid about SIDS I wanted them to have the pacifier. I also agree better than them finding a thumb. My bf is having a major problem with her thumb sucking daughter. She never took a paci but she said she wishes she did. You can get rid of a paci, not the thumb.

Re: pacifiers- yes or no?
I sat behind a baby at dinner tonight at a pizzeria who was blowing raspberries toward me while I ate. Thankfully, his dad had a paci on hand .........
That's all I have to say

My DD will refuse the pacifier sometimes and suck on her fist. I think it depends on the child. I know I can't force a pacifier, she will spit it out. She gets some distance now!

LIJ gave them when DD was born 13 months ago... I didn't know they stopped? Not a word was said to me about nipple confusion.

pacifiers- yes or no?
I just think every child is different. Baby J loves hers and Baby I couldn't care less. I only give it at bedtime or naptime to prevent SIDS, and they asked me permission to use it in the hospital, which I thought was very nice. They never mentioned nipple confusion to me....
