Overwhelmed at the thought of registering
I am 16 weeks and totally overwhelmed by the idea of registering. So many important decisions to make- and I am very indecisive! Any suggestions as to how I can make this as painless as possible? Also are there things I need to buy that don't go on a registry? Only thing coming to mind is furniture.

Buy the Baby Bargains Book - it is a great guide to help with registering. It gives real parent reviews of different items at different price points - I would've been lost without it.

I second this! It will make registering so much easier. Another piece of advice is the bring someone with you who already has kids to register. I brought DH at first to just start one and look around. Then I brought my sister who has three kids to finish the registry. This helps alot!!!!

I third this!!! We didn't start registering yet - waiting to confirm the baby's gender - but I've been reading a lot of this book for the big items. Then I went online to BBB and BRU and looked thru what I liked. I've been bookmarking any items that I really like. I feel like its the big items that are the most overwhelming and the book and websites can ease that beforehand.

YES!! I read this book before I ever even looked at the BRU website. They go through each category, telling you what you might need and why. They also tell you what not to waste your $ on. At the end there is sample registry.
IMO this book was far more helpful than the "reviews" section of any the store websites.

Re: Overwhelmed at the thought of registering
At 14 weeks, I've been to BRU a few times to look at some of the bigger items. I've been reading baby bargains and looking at reviews online (BRU lets you sort products by customer rating) and keeping a list of what I like. If you start with the bigger things now then you can take it a little at a time, even if you don't actually start the registry yet.

I fifth this!! This definitly helped, bringing my sister in law helped as well, and I got lucky with a great refgistry consultant the first time I went to BBB to register (I ended up going back a second day to finish up and was not quite as lucky but the person helping me was still pretty good) I tweaked things on line as I went along but not much.
I am SUPER indecisive and I found it to be less overwhelming than bridal shower registering and much more fun. I just had my shower yesterday and hardly have any returns or anything left to get.

Re: Overwhelmed at the thought of registering
My suggestion: The first visit, go there for about 30-45 minutes. Print up your registry and go home. Just get a small taste. Then go back and get the personal shopper to walk you around. Then go home and work it online.
This is what I did because I was in a panic even thinking about it. Once you start it though, it stops being so overwhelming.

ITA! I DREADED registering because it was just too overwhelming to me. I first stopped in with DH and picked up the list of recommeded registry items. I went through the big stuff (car seats, strollers, etc) one at a time and read the reviews in the Baby Bargains Book to narrow down the options to 1 or 2 for each. Then DH and I went to look at them in person. We knocked out registering for the big things. Then I went back a few weeks later with my friend who has kids and she helped me with all the little stuff. It wasn't so bad at all. And you will be so happy when it's done!!

This is great advice (though I did not use a personal shopper) and also the Baby Bargains book made it seem much less daunting.
