Does anyone feel overwhelmed at the thought of registering?
I'm probably going to start registering in about 2 weeks. I have the Baby Bargains book although I haven't read much yet.
I'm starting to get overwhelmed. I'm the first of my friends to get pregnant and don't really have anyone to ask about the necessities. I'm totally confused by what to get and how many to register for: car seats (infant and convertible?), strollers (how many and what kind?), travel system?, snap & go?, etc). Does anyone feel the same way?

I have peeked a few times and start feeling panicky, like "how am I ever going to figure out what I need, what's safe, etc?"
That is why I have just been gradually exposing myself, browsing in stores, just to learn a bit and take it gradually.

You'll be ok Just go to the store and gradually add things to a registry. They will give you a worksheet to start off of.
You'll probably have to make a few trips and change things around. For the big stuff, you can always ask what people here recommend.

Does anyone have any advice on numbers/types of strollers and carseats to register for?
What about the travel system and snap & go? Are they necessary?

Re: Does anyone feel overwhelmed at the thought of registering?
Brooke - I knew I was in trouble when I went shopping for a friend's baby and I started hyperventilating at BRU because it was so overwhelming. Because of this, DH and I went to BRU at about 14 weeks and just started looking around, discussing what we liked, etc.. We did this a couple of times before actually registering and it really helped the anxiety. I still had issues about certain things - breast pumps, bottles, and car seats to be exact, so I had been putting off registering for these things. Thankfully, we found a great associate the last time we were there spending about 45 minutes with us talking about the pumps and bottles and the differences/benefits of each. Dh was thrilled but we finally got that done. Just take your time and don't be afraid to ask lots of questions on here and in the store.
The baby bargains helped...I thought it was a great starting point to eliminate certain things right off the bat.

I am-- I am just going to ask my friends what I need... it's quite different than registering for your wedding!
I am one of those people that also only wants to register for stuff I NEED... I hate registries that just have tons of useless stuff on there.

Re: Does anyone feel overwhelmed at the thought of registering?
i frequented the parenting boards and I know if you do a search, there was a topic and life saver baby equiptment (stuff they couldnt live without!)
Also if you go on the BRU website, I found the product reviews extremely helpful

Re: Does anyone feel overwhelmed at the thought of registering?
i am with you! it is very overwhelming! i am not super looking forward to registering b/c i have found that i cant stand big shopping malls anymore. any sort of big store with aisles and aisles of stuff just gets me dizzy! now add trying to register for the right products! i could faint!
but i have found that no topic here on LIF is too repeatative!and your best bet before you register is to ask here first.
do you know how many thread there are on travel systems, strollers, bottles etc.
we are all going through this! my advice is to take the most important big ticket items such as car seat, stroller, etc and find out what people have and if they recommend it or not.
and register a little at a time. i think to do it all in one day is
hth!

Re: Does anyone feel overwhelmed at the thought of registering?
I was also overwhelmed. I chose amazon and BRU for my registries. I began at 13 weeks and kept them a secret for many weeks... I then changed almost everything as I researched each topic (strollers, carseats, mattresses, bottles, breast pumps, swings...) Somehow, it was more reassuring to keep that running draft going online rather than comitting to some random packnplay at BRU by just scanning a code of something that looked good. Online it's much easier. you can read customer reviews from BRU, amazon, and other sites and then make your decisions.....
just take it one day at a time, and it will be fine!
have fun!
