Those two make my ears bleed when I hear them.
You can add:
"all the sudden" It's "all OF A sudden"
"Also, too"
"Needless to say" -- which is constantly misused.

[Oooh, if we're talking about misspellings, I HAVE to add "could of" and "would of."
They literally ( ) make my skin crawl!
These two drive me insane. I used to work with someone who, when speaking in the past tense, would actually say, "I could ofed." As in the past tense of "of."
And supposebly.

im guilty of most of these except for orientated and irregardless. are those even real words?
Absolutely NOT.
Besides that, if irregardless were a word, it would mean the EXACT OPPOSITE of what people use it to mean.
HUGE pet peeve of mine!
Orientated IS a word, literally : http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/orientated
I didn't realize it was, either.

ughhh, "all of the sudden", DH says that and I roll my eyes every time because I've argued this too many times before and he doesn't believe me that it is "all of a sudden".
Anyway, at my job one phrase that drives me nuts is "fair enough". To me is almost is sometimes used dismissively. Urks me to no end.

I nearly screamed out loud the first time I saw irregardless in the dictionary.
If you notice in that link for the definition of orientated, when they try to use it in a sentence the word they actually use is oriented.. which is the correct word.
Conversate is another one that people are using now. It's supposed to be converse. I don't get it.

"Ain't" is also in the dictionary. It doesn't make it a proper word.

I didn't realize it was, either. It is one of those "words" that is so overused that it has been added to some (most, all?) dictionaries. Much like irregardless (is now in the dictionary).
It gives the origin as being from 1840-1850, and Miriam Webster gives a date of 1848 for the origin of the word. Personally, I never use "orientated", but I think it's an old, very outdated version of a word that hasn't been used much until the last few years, which is why it appears to be a new, butchered version of "oriented".
Either way, I don't like the word, so I don't plan on using it.....

Posted by greenfreak -irregardless -at the end of the day
I just corrected my boss for using 'irregardless' for the 10,000th time during a recent conversation. He was annoyed.
He also says 'at the end of the day' CONSTANTLY.
Personally, I overuse a lot of phrases. Yes but, like, whatever, I mean in all honesty it is essentially the way I speak and technically if someone doesn't like it, um, it is what it is. Irregardless of what anyone thinks I am basically gonna, you know - talk the way I want. Yeah, it's just how I am orientated. I know you feel me!

This is so true ! DH always replies "nothing happened" when his mother says this !! She uses it instead of a plain old "what?" or for an "excuse me/pardon me" type of situation. I find it funny
