Overused words or expressions
While browsing Tech Republic for something I found this thread on "10 wording blunders that make you look stupid"
The list is of things that are overused or used incorrectly. An excerpt of the 240 replies:
-like -whatever -yes, but -yeah -um -it is what it is -you know (I'm guilty of this) -basically -technically -in all honesty -essentially -orientated -irregardless -at the end of the day
What are your pet peeve words or phrases?

In all honesty, like, it is what it is. At the end of the day, it's technically irrelevant, irregardless of what was intended, you know?

Re: Overused words or expressions
Three Phrases that I get goosebumps from when I hear are:
Been there, done that My bad Hands Down (probably the worst)
Hearing these phrases is like nails screeching on a chalkboard; but a lot worse...

"You see what I'm saying?"
No, unless you talk in speech bubbles like in a cartoon, I can't "see" what you are saying!

I cannot stand it when people proceed a question with:
"Question for you."
Believe me, I will understand that you are asking a question without announcing it.

Re: Overused words or expressions
"At the same point in time" - My boss says this constantly
"Per se" - The majority of people I have heard use it in the wrong context

Re: Overused words or expressions
Overused- "How [insert simple adjective] is that?"
For example: "How great is that?" (frequent user: Rachael Ray)

I also hate when the word "literally" is used incorrectly.

Re: Overused words or expressions
Two of mine:
"The reality is is that" (yes, with two is)
"Let me tell you something..." What follows is usually some kind of way of saying "You're an idiot." or "You're wrong and I'm right." There's someone I know who does this frequently and it drives me crazy.

Absolutely NOT.
Besides that, if irregardless were a word, it would mean the EXACT OPPOSITE of what people use it to mean.
HUGE pet peeve of mine!
