Yes, it's about Trump.

Last night, he sent out a few truly disturbing tweets about the Ford motor company. He claimed that the chairman Bob Ford, after speaking with him, has now decided not to move its plant to Mexico. THIS IS A COMPLETE FABRICATION.

#1 The Kentucky plant was never moving
#2 There are now all these fake news stories floating around about how Trump has already saved jobs.
#3 This is manipulation of the media by the president-elect of the country to mislead the american public.

THIS IS NOT OK.

Saw that on TV this morning - so unbelievable that he thinks he really can just say ANYTHING. As much as I hope (hope, not expect) he really does good things for our county, I have no doubt his arrogance WILL come to hurt him at some point during his presidency.

Don't worry. He'll tweet later that he never said that.

I'm not trying to start an argument but how do you know the Plant was never moving. I have read multiple sources including this one WSJ Article Ford that confirms Trump's tweet. Just asking how it was manipulation?

Ford was originally intending to move production of ONE model to Mexico - and that move would not have cost any workers their jobs. The only thing Ford did was change that plan. Will not create any new jobs and did not save any existing jobs

Washington Post

(cannot read your link without being a WSJ subscriber - can you post the article?)

Washington Post Article

President-elect Donald Trump claimed credit on Thursday for keeping a Ford plant in Kentucky from moving to Mexico. But the company never planned to move the entire plant, only one of its production lines.

Just got a call from my friend Bill Ford, Chairman of Ford, who advised me that he will be keeping the Lincoln plant in Kentucky - no Mexico

I worked hard with Bill Ford to keep the Lincoln plant in Kentucky. I owed it to the great State of Kentucky for their confidence in me!

Ford has never announced plans to move to Mexico either its Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, which produces the Lincoln Navigator, or the Louisville Assembly Plant, which produces the Lincoln MKC and the Ford Escape.

In a statement on Thursday night, following Trump's tweet, the company said it had told Trump it would cancel a plan to shift production of a single model — the MKC — from Kentucky to Mexico. The company last year indicated it would be moving MKC production out of Louisville, though it did not announce where it was going. At the time, union leaders said the shift would not cost any jobs in Kentucky, because Escape production would replace lost MKC production.

“Today, we confirmed with the President-elect that our small Lincoln utility vehicle made at the Louisville Assembly Plant will stay in Kentucky,” the company said in a statement. “We are encouraged that President-elect Trump and the new Congress will pursue policies that will improve U.S. competitiveness and make it possible to keep production of this vehicle here in the United States.”

In a follow-up email exchange, a Ford spokeswoman confirmed that the MKC production had been slated to move to Mexico.

This week, Ford chief executive Mark Fields reiterated that it was moving forward with plans to shift production of the Ford Focus to Mexico from Michigan.

Trump has criticized those plans, which the company says will not cost any American jobs, because other models will be produced in the Michigan plant instead.

In an interview with Reuters, Fields highlighted the investments the company was making in domestic plants — most notably, in Kentucky.

Ford announced a $1.3 billion investment in the Kentucky Truck Plant late last year. It said the move would create 2,000 new jobs.

Bill Ford Jr., the company's executive chairman, said in October that he had met with Trump over the then-candidate's frequent campaign attacks on Ford's decision to move small-car production to Mexico.

“I've had a very good meeting with him,” Ford told the Economic Club of Washington. “He's a very good listener and he knows the facts.”

This isn't the first time Trump has misstated facts about a Ford move. In October 2015, he tweeted that the company had halted plans to build a factory in Mexico and would locate in Ohio instead, and he claimed credit for the decision. The company said he was wrong, and that it was continuing to build its plant in Mexico.

I can't read that article, but there are many sources that state the plant was not moving. The production of Lincoln MKC was planned to move to Mexico by 2019. That is what is not happening now.

For him to tweet that the whole plant was not moving anymore is misleading. And to claim that he saved jobs is also a lie. Ford stated last year when they announced the move of the Lincoln production that it wasn't expected to lead to any job loss.

So, he did not save a plant from moving, nor did he save any jobs.

Outright lies are the norm now???

To go back to the OP, the Lincoln MKC's factory did have plans to move - so this is not a total fabrication.
Who cares about fake news stories saying Trump "might" be doing a good thing? You, like everyone else will educate yourself and do research to find out if it is correct or not. Are we afraid people might think he did a good thing?

No plant was moving. Production of one car was moving. The plant was always going to remain.

Of course, I'd love for him to do good, when he actually does it. But, it's already been established that a good deal of the public does not do independent research and just listens to sound bites and tweets. He is taking advantage of that. Ford obviously has an end game in mind by sucking up to the pres-elect. Truth is, Trump did not save anything, but did take credit for it.

I have no problems with an American car/truck company sucking up to Trump. In my eyes, Trump made Mr. Ford accountable and has really prevented him from moving any "line" or "factory" out of the country. I know everyone will not see it that way but it is another way of looking at it instead of being angry about his presidency.

Maybe not saved jobs TODAY but in future years, I think so. Further, Ford would never ever admit to employees losing their jobs. Could you imagine if CEO's and Owner's companies willing admitted such? It's just not a good look for any company...

IF he saves jobs in the future, then good for him and the people he helps - and I will gladly give him credit IF and WHEN it is due. And it's not just Ford saying "no worries - no jobs will be lost." The workers' union has been involved and I'm sure they'd be discrediting Ford's claim if it wasn't true. And Ford is a sophisticated enough company to know that what they say about job loss/creation WILL be verified

Quote from the New York Times (11.18.2016)
"Ford makes the Lincoln MKC, a sport utility vehicle, at a factory in Louisville. Last week, Ford said it planned to move production of the vehicle elsewhere. On Thursday night, after Mr. Trump’s Twitter messages, the company said that Mexico had been the intended destination and that it would now keep MKC production in Kentucky."

Also, the quote said that he and Ford worked together; not seeing how he is taking full credit.

But Trump is making it sound like he SAVED jobs - which he didn't do. Ford has made it clear that NO jobs would have been lost if they moved that production line. He is trying to take credit for doing something he did not do

I'm just confused on how one meeting with Trump means that HE saved these jobs? The company decided not to move one part of their production to Mexico...

I'm just confused as why he thinks he gets credit for it....

One word: narcissism

Quote from the New York Times (11.18.2016)
"Ford makes the Lincoln MKC, a sport utility vehicle, at a factory in Louisville. Last week, Ford said it planned to move production of the vehicle elsewhere. On Thursday night, after Mr. Trump’s Twitter messages, the company said that Mexico had been the intended destination and that it would now keep MKC production in Kentucky."

Also, the quote said that he and Ford worked together; not seeing how he is taking full credit.

This was one of Trump's Tweets: "I worked hard with Bill Ford to keep the Lincoln plant in Kentucky. I owed it to the great State of Kentucky for their confidence in me!”

There was NEVER any danger of the PLANT moving out of Kentucky - never. Trump did not do anything to keep the plant OPEN. Moving production of ONE vehicle is extremely different form CLOSING an entire plant. Ford has made it clear that NO jobs were in danger of being eliminated. Trump is clearly trying to take credit for saving jobs that were never in jeopardy.

and where in what you quoted from the NYT does it say Trump & Ford worked together? Trump is the only one saying they worked together - trying to take credit for something he did not do

I don't see how there was NEVER any danger of moving the plant since the company stated the intended destination was Mexico.

I think there is a lot of splitting hairs because of the dislike for Trump.

Further, the NYT did not say they worked together, Trump's own Tweet did. It is quoted above for a reference.

There is no dispute that the PLANT was NEVER going to be closed down. It is not splitting hairs - there is a big difference between moving production of ONE model to shutting down the entire plant. The ONLY thing that was ever going to happens was that production of ONE model was going to be moved. And production of another model in Kentucky was going to takes it's place. Yes, Ford stated the intended destination for production of only ONE type of vehicle was Mexico. NEVER, anywhere did ANYONE ever say the plant was going to close. Trump insinuated that by his tweet - that's what he does, repeatedly. Takes one thing and twists it into something else. Where have you read that there was ever any intention to shut down the entire plant?
