Our school shortened quarantine/isolation to 5 days!

My home district adopted it. I am happy that kids can return on day 6, but I did not like my district’s answers in regards to how lunch and snack will be handled and what is considered a “well fitting” mask.

We are 6ft apart unmasked for lunch and snack already - they eat snack in shifts and lunch on the floor on lap desks in the cafeteria area or in the hallway (kind of gross and germy anyway).

Well fitting masks in our district is one that covers the nose and mouth appropriately. Some are loose and baggy.

I am referring to kids who get released on day 6.

The CDC specifically states, “Avoid eating around others at home and at work until a full 10 days after your first day of symptoms.” The nurse said everyone is just eating in the classroom and cafeteria 6 feet apart.

For a well fitting mask, the district should make them at the very least wear a surgical mask.

We’ll see what happens. My son had Covid in October and I thought the 11 day isolation was excessive. I know children need to be in school so I support the decision to get them back, but I think they need to reevaluate some logistical things. I have cafeteria duty and I will say lunch is a hot mess.

I saw this in lohud! This is great news! Hoping westchester follows suit (we do have test to stay).

The superintendents decided that they don’t have the capabilities to do the test to stay and I think the county is mad because they keep on posting on FB that schools need to adopt it. But getting the parental authorization and having the right people available to do the testing is their hesitation.

So many kids were excited to be sprung from quarantine early for the snow day.

regarding parental authorization. what is the issue with this. if parents don't provide approval to test then their kid needs to stay out of school quarantined!

Also I wonder why they cant just say you need to go to the DR yourself and get a test that says negative if you want your child to return rather than it being on the school make it on the parent who doesn't want their child to quarantined.

of course not expecting you to have the answers lol just wondering out loud Chat Icon

The kids would need to be tested daily and I know my pediatrician doesn’t have the capacity right now to test my child daily. Nor do they open in time for my oldest to get to school on time.

I think it’s just a question of having the resources available at the school level.

But honestly it’s for school exposures only and most exposures are from outside of school (in our district at this point).

My district is doing test to stay. They have basically opened their own testing site and testing happens in the morning before school. The parent needs to take the kid. If they are negative, the parent then takes them to school, if they’re positive they go home and the specific school is automatically notified. An exposed kid must test negative 3 times within the 7 day period following the exposure.

It would be a whole lot easier and cheaper for them to just reduce the quarantine.

Is it over a specific time frame? Like can they test negative 3x in a row and then they are done?

That’s a good question. It says they have to test negative on the 7th day, so I don’t think it can be consecutive days.

I think they have to because this is what the state has now. I don't think schools can make you quarantine longer than the state says.
