Our garbage men...
...keep breaking our garbage cans! Is it normal to have to buy a new garbage can every couple of months because your garbage men apparently keep slamming them onto the pavement? Every time we get a new can, it's never long before the lid becomes completely useless because it has so many cracks that it will no longer stay on the can. And our cans all have chunks missing from the bottom and some have cracks down the side. I figured it was normal during the freezing cold temps. in winter, figuring that could make the material more brittle. But it happens in warm weather too. Did we do something to p!ss our garbage men off? Not a big enough holiday tip? Or are they just really in such a hurry that they have to hurl the cans onto the ground? I don't know if I should call and complain...I don't want to sound petty and get them in trouble, but at the same time, the cost of replacing the cans is really starting to add up.

No, you should not need to replace cans that often!
We've had our plastic cans for well over 5 years now. One of the handles broke off one of them, but that's it.

Re: Our garbage men...
I would think it's not that easy to break chunks off an empty can. Are you cans that heavy?

they're just regular plastic cans...the chunks come of the bottom. I guess from being slammed down so much, they keep cracking and eventually pieces fall off. But basically, now some of our cans have holes in the bottom so we can't use them for things like leaves because some of the leaves come out of the bottom when we move the cans to the street.

Not normal. I hate our garbage men because our cans are always down the block...but they're not broken and we've had them 2 years.

Re: Our garbage men...
We made holes in the bottom of ours by dragging them down our driveway.

Its def not normal to have to keep replacing them! The only reason you should get holes is from the wildlife in your area lol. I would see if any of your neighbors are experiencing the same problem.

Re: Our garbage men...
This is what happens to our recycle bin-we have replaced it 2 times in 3 years b/c it keeps getting smashed to pieces. Not our cans, but that is probably b/c they don't handle them-we don't have to put them on the curb.
