I like how this is an NRA problem and not an ISIS / immigration problem.
The tragedy is incredibly senseless and very sad. Innocent people were killed and honestly, this could have been prevented. National security needs to be a priority. The war on terror is real and this has hit home for many people. Blaming of the NRA is BS. We need to focus on the people that hate us, our way of life. They are a threat to women, gays, children- everyone. THAT is the problem. They hate us and there are so many of them. It is so scary.
Immigration... gunman was American born, as we'll see many of these animals are our own. Blaming immigration is pointless.
It's a terrorist problem ... domestic or foreign doesn't really matter.

You really need to look at the difference between lone wolf and ISIS directed attacks. There is a difference. ISIS did not supply the weapons to him and there wasn't a cell like in Paris and Brussels. He pledged allegiance to ISIS, but he went out and got his own guns. So yeah, NRA has a role in this.
ISIS is losing ground anyway. The bigger problem is gun control in this country at least. Take a look at other countries (Syria, Iraq, etc.) and look at the terrorism there. It's laughable that we blame this solely on terrorism.

ISIS is the one teaching people that we need to die because of the way we live our lives. So IMO it's a terrorist problem. Would you be saying it's a pressure cooker problem if this guy took a backpack bomb into the club? We need to stop the people that are willing to die for their cause just because they believe we are their enemy.

I didn't realize I was supposed to be writing you a complete essay. Yes, I oversimplified it because this is a message board. If you want to dive into all the particulars that make each individual terrorist group hate Americans, be my guest. I don't really think it makes a difference why they hate us. All that matters is that they think they need to kill us and they will die trying to do it using any means available to them.
If you want to use this as a platform for gun control, go right ahead but I do not agree with you.

It's the same rhetoric time after time "our thoughts and preyers" etc etc. Honestly when no changes were made after twenty 6 year olds were murdered in their classrooms NOTHING will be done in this country to stop this savagery.
Yes they will build bombs and get us in other ways but why give them the option to purchase assault rifles? Why not link up any legal gun shop with the FBI so that EVERYONE who buys an assault rifle is made known to the FBI. I know this won't stop the black market settling but why is it impossible to buy a kinder egg in the US because one child choked on the toy but we can rock up and get an assault rifle. The irony is embarrassing.
We are so caught up in our "rights" that we forget that its our right to go to school, a movie theater, a college, a nightclub etc without getting our heads blown up...its a complete and utter joke and it makes me enraged that nothing is being done.
Exactly. Everyone will change their facebook profile pic for a few days or feel they need to discuss their feelings on the tragedy on Facebook. Like that matters. Like social media or changing your pic or a stupid hashtag will do anything. I feel like the terrorists are laughing at us as we take selfies and spout our personal opinions and feelings on social media. Until real changes are made and the government does something, it will just continue to happen.
I agree with both of you ladies 100%

I agree... the whole attention on the guns aspect seems media driven as always.
This is a terrorist issue not a gun issue.
They HATE us. They will use ANYTHING to kill us and let us hate within ourselves. This plays right into that.
NRA didn't do this. HE did this. Criminals never follow the law More gun laws won't fix this. But instead of dealing or focusing on who he was, how we missed it, why we let him off the list, how our government chose to turn a blind eye to a terrorist the media rather blame NRA? why? seriously WHY? Because it's an election year and everyone hates the NRA right now. It's a power play by the media over the bodies of the dead. It's shameful. We are eating it up too.
We need to focus instead on how to prevent letting this happen again. PERIOD. Because states with tough gun laws, schools with no gun policies, cities with background checks and loops holes closed and all the pretty bells and whistles everyone has wanted for so long are STILL suffering. Why? Lets fix that. Lets stop the blame game on the legal and just and focus on the illegal for what they are CRIMINALS.

How about aurora? Sandy hook? Charleston? All acts of terror, not unlike this one. Damn straight the NRA gets blame, maybe not the sole blame but they're far from innocent.

Why is it necessary for ordinary citizens to have assault rifles?
Why is it such a problem to have more comprehensive background checks?
Why is it such a problem to close the gun show loophole?
I don't understand why people are against stronger regulations. Yes, people will still get guns illegally. But should we just shrug our shoulders and not even try?

I feel like responsible gun owners should be ok with this. I will never understand why anyone wouldn't be ok with this. And yes, I've heard the reasons but IMO, they're not good enough.

Re: Orlando shooting
As a gun safety advocate, I am going to answer these questions both with my opinions and the opinions of NRA members whom I know personally.
Why is it necessary for ordinary citizens to have assault rifles? = Assault rifles is a term made up by the media to try and demonize the military style rifles produced for civilians. The civilians who own them usually don't want to assault anyone, only to use them for sport and protection. However, for an intruder, a shotgun is much more effective. Firearms factories who produce these rifles employ thousands of people, and demand is huge. So the answer is, "they don't, but we also don't 'need' a Coach bag, either".
Why is it such a problem to have more comprehensive background checks? = I don't know why they're so against it. My personal opinion is, if you don't have anything to hide, why are you so against it as a "law-abiding" citizen
Why is it such a problem to close the gun show loophole? = Many people purchase firearms secondhand at gun shows. Activating further restrictions at gun shows would prevent unlicensed firearms sellers from selling them, thus making it an overall gun ban. i.e. in NYS under the safe act, a father cannot pass on his firearms to his son or anyone else when he passes. The firearm has to be turned in. Many supporters of firearms rights feel this is an early-stage gun-grab to disarm citizens. I personally don't get it either- why shouldn't there be background checks at gun shows?
I don't understand why people are against stronger regulations. Yes, people will still get guns illegally. But should we just shrug our shoulders and not even try? = A viable solution that will keep the firearms out of the hands of criminals has not been proposed. Some of the current laws that prevent certain levels of criminals from legally purchasing firearms are a good start. But I don't have any idea how to stop my 18yo student from going into South Jamaica to buy 2 guns out of the back of some guy's truck. Why does this kid know where to find him, but the cops can't?

Yes.
And I think he was gay. And filled with loathing and self hate. He apparently was so outraged by seeing two men kiss a few months ago, according to his dad.
Just put on the news and news reports of him being a regular in many gay clubs back in his academy days.
What's that saying? Those who doth protest too much?

YES!
I am so sick of hearing that criminals will get guns anyway so why bother with regulations. Why bother having any laws then since criminals will break them? Maybe some will still get guns, but that is so reason not to have further regulations. Why do we feel the need to make it so Damn easy for them to get guns? This guy was being watched by the fbi, but he had no issues getting multiple guns and ammunition.
This clearly was a gun issue. It was a self loathing gay male who shot up a gay club. and even if it was a terrorist issue, why can't it also be a gun issue. The same folks who say we need to amp up the war on terror are supporting politicians who block bills that would restrict gun access to these terrorists (most notably those on the fbi watchlist).
No one is calling for a complete dearming of America, so I just can't see why a few more common sense gun restrictions would be opposed by any responsible gun owner. I personally don't worry about a terrorist strike in my day to day life, but I do feel a twing of worry of a crazy gunman whenever I drop my kids at school, go to the movies or go to any large events.

Re: Orlando shooting
It is ABHORRENT that we are so petrified of losing our right to own guns that we do absolutely NOTHING when children are murdered. And now 50 people partying and having a good time were also murdered, by someone who was allowed to legally purchase his weapons. ABHORRENT.
He was AMERICAN BORN. That means this is NOT in any way, shape or form an immigration problem. Enough with that nonsense already.
He swore allegiance to ISIS right before he started shooting. But now we hear that he was on gay dating sites and frequented that club for years. IMO He capitalized on his Muslim heritage and sound bites of today in order to cover his self loathing and shame.
And while people point to Paris as an example of gun legislation failing to protect their citizens, I'd like to point to Australia as an example of successful one. 20 years, no mass shootings. If our whole country had the same restrictions in every state, we would absolutely reduce the amount of gun violence. It wouldn't eliminate it completely, just like drunk driving laws haven't eliminated drunk drivers. But it has reduced it.

And that's the other thing that bothers me. Why can states make up their own rules? So we have 50 states and some can have stricter gun laws and some can have laxed gun laws and some can legalize pot and others say pot is illegal, and some can have gambling and prostitution legalized, and others can't. So there are 50 different standards when it comes to buying guns, etc? So if your state is too tough, just go to another state and buy a gun?
I feel like we need to act more as a nation, not as 50 little countries with all different laws.

That ties into how the government was formed. We were more like 50 little countries all with different laws, state law was always supreme. But IMO gun laws should be mandated at the federal level, because gun laws by state are always going to be relatively ineffective so long as the neighboring state(s) don't have similar statutes.

EXACTLY! it's fine that different states have different laws on the little things. Speed limits, taxes etc.
But when it comes to gun control, it's completely ineffective to have different laws in different states. It defeats the purpose. It absolutely needs to be at the federal level.
