Organizing digital photos?
What is your system for organizing photos on your computer and what else do you do with them - photobooks? I don't take many pictures, but what I have is still overwhelming and it's just downloads of my memory cards at random times. I'm thinking about starting with yearly folders and then as I have time making a favorites folder for each year.

Re: Organizing digital photos?
I create folders by the occasion not by year. I like seeing all my folder titles at once. Vacations are titled by place/year, weddings are by the couples name/year, birthdays are by name/age, Christmas-New Year/year. I also have folders titled spring/year, summer/year etc. I order photo books through Shutterfly. I do what is called digital scrapbooking. I create my own layout and personalize my pages in Photoshop. I add sayings, backgrounds, different graphics and other elements. Then just upload the finished page into Shutterfly. I keep on top of getting my photos off of my cards and organizing right away.

Organizing digital photos?
I'm afraid of losing my photos when my computer dies (yes we have a backup) so I tend to put them all on flickr for storage. I organize them by year bc I tend to store 200-400 photos per year. I never print photos but I make a year in review photo book from Shutterfly at Xmas time and give them to grandparents as gifts (and keep one for ourselves).

I keep them in folders by year and then within that by month and then sometimes further by event. I try to make a favorites folder within each folder as soon as I download each, otherwise it's just way too overwhelming to look through them. Then if I need a pic for something it's easy to find good ones and when I go to make a photo book it's so much easier. I have a problem bc I really can't bring myself to delete any.

Everything gets uploaded to Shutterfly and I do monthly groovebooks. Impt things like maternity photos get their own shutterfly book.

Organizing digital photos?
I have a mac and I organize in separate albums on iphoto. I organize by year, but specific events (baptism, birth, christmas, big vacation, etc.) have their own album.

Re: Organizing digital photos?
yearly folder, then monthly folder inside of that Then if a lot of pics are from an important event, I highlight all those pics and rename them - Marys Wedding - Easter - Family Reunion
