Opinions on Birthday party time?
Thinking of having DS's 5th birthday party on a Sunday at 5:15 pm. Party will be at a venue and an hour and a half long. Thoughts? Is the day and time too late for that age?

Re: Opinions on Birthday party time?
Would it be the Sunday before a school day? If so, then yes, it would be too late for us. They aren't in bed before 7:30, but parties usually get them all wound up, and between the excitement, and cake, and possibly juice, there's no way they would be ready to sleep at 7:30.

Opinions on Birthday party time?
we just went to a Sunday birthday party (5 year old) from 4-5:30. it was fine for us because we were home by 6. 5:15 is a bit late and could be an issue for some. my kids don't go to bed until 8, so if it was us, we would make it work.

I personally wouldn't love the time. We'd go for a close friend, but probably skip it for someone we're not close with.

Re: Opinions on Birthday party time?
My son has had parties that start at that time, one even later than that, and it was fine. They played, had dinner and went home. He was in bed by his regular bedtime. No biggie.

Re: Opinions on Birthday party time?
I wouldn't mind.
It's kind of late for a Sunday, but probably wouldn't interfere with any other weekend plans, and really it's one day, not a big deal to me. I'd prefer 5:15 to like a 2:30 party.

Re: Opinions on Birthday party time?
I think it's a little late, not so much for the 5 year olds, but for having to deal with younger sibs once home from the party. But we'd probably attend anyway.

Opinions on Birthday party time?
It would be fine for us.. my kids are 3 and 5 and sometimes still nap mid day so we could do something in teh morning, they could rest in teh afternoon and then go to the party/ have dinner there and come home, bath, pj , unwind and bed! i know this advice is trite but really do what works best for you- everyone always has an issue with some time/day. Too early in the morning, people dont want to wake up and rush on the weekend, mid morning people have have Church, or Sports, Mid day kills the parents weekend or the kids nap etc etc. No time is perfect, if people want to be there they will be there =) Have fun!

I'd be fine with it! My 4-year-old is in bed by 8 on school nights.

Re: Opinions on Birthday party time?
I wouldn't mind that time at all. I think it would get my kids nice and tired for bed and they would eat dinner at the party, so when I got home I wouldn't have to cook.

Re: Opinions on Birthday party time?
We attended a party at 5 pm on a Sunday and DS was so wired from the cake and candy. I would be saying no.

Re: Opinions on Birthday party time?
We've done this the last two years for DD her 4th and 5th birthday) and our friends have told us its their favorite slot. You come to the party, play, eat at what is really dinner time, then go home and bath/bed.

Re: Opinions on Birthday party time?
I wouldn't care it will be done by 6:45 that's not too late. I wouldn't have to feed them when I get home all I would have to do is bath them and the go to bed.
This wouldn't mess with our bedtime but if it did I am OK with my kids not going to be at their scheduled time.

Re: Opinions on Birthday party time?
When I got home yesterday, I found out DS actually got invited to a bday party from 7-8:30 on a Saturday night at a kiddie party place. THAT I find kind of annoying just because I don't want to be at kzam or wherever it is at 7 on a Saturday night. But he wants to go so that is where I will be.

This. If it was a family member or a close friend, I'd try my best to go. Having said that...late Sundays are a bit of a pain not only because the kids would still be full of energy because of the sweets from the party, but also because parents usually prefer to get back home earlier because of work on the next day. Maybe if it was a Sat it wouldn't be too bad, although I'd still try to plan it for an earlier time.

For me, Sunday late afternoon/nights are for family dinners and relaxing before the week starts. I wouldn't like the time but we would still go.

I feel the same way. Sunday evening we get ready for the week, do laundry, organize backpacks etc. so I wouldn't be happy about that time at all.
A pp mentioned a 7-8 pm party-- no way would we go! I think that is really too late. My kids are in pjs by 7.
