I'm sorry but this is an unrealistic statement. Nannies are human beings. They are allowed to check their phone, just like everybody else. Sometimes I read statements like this about what nannies/sitters should be "allowed" and I suspect the people writing them don't often spend a full day with a baby or toddler.

And furthermore, unless your job is paying you to proselytize on LIF, I wouldn't preach that much about having your phone put away

I dont get the Nanny has a life thing. Your life true. But maybe I dont get the point of a Nanny to begin with. I mean aren't they paid to care for your child or just 'watch over' them? Or let me put it this way.. I put them into the same catagory as my preschool/daycare. I would be livid to find them on their cell phones.

I don't know...I get what you're saying but I feel that a nanny job is just a bit different. Most nannies are watching 1 or 2 kids in a home setting. A daycare is a business setting. And there are many children there with a more structured day, similar to school. If a nanny is at a park and pushing a child on a swing, or taking a walk with a child etc...then I think its normal to make a phone call or receive a call. I'm not saying she should be on her phone all day long, but its normal to talk here and there. I honestly equate a lot of nannying to being a SAHM. I would go CRAZY all day if i were completely cut off from my phone. It doesn't mean I talk all day..my kids and I are constantly on the run, but I make the occasional call as well as have friends that call to say hi. It keeps me sane at times lol

I think $100 should cover a non-smart phone from just about any carrier.

Tell her to keep her phone in a high up place such that your DD can't reach it.

Exactly this. I see your DH point but like PP have said kids get into things..just be thankful it wasnt an Iphone Chat Icon
