I will never understand this phenomenon- ever.
9 months pregnant & feeling the way I do, you have to be completely oblivious to your own body NOT to know something just aint right- ya think?
Maybe I should watch this & try to understand it.

Re: on tv tonight...
i saw it on gma--- and they did a piece promoting the show tonight. the doc said it happens to women with very irregular cycles-- so they don't notice anything wrong w/ not getting their periods.
also, they tend to be overweight anyway- so they don't gain weight, or notice a change in their bellies.
i still don't understand it.

Seriously.. If I felt something kicking in my stomach, that would pose a red flag, no?

That's crap. I'm overweight and my stomach is now getting hard, not soft anymore. That wouldn't pose a red flag.

Just saying what the doctor said that GMA had on..
I agree-- regardless of how much you weigh, there has got to be a change in your body.
But, she also said-- if you didn't think you were prego, you just don't notice things the same way. You may attribute symptoms or feelings to something else.

Re: on tv tonight...
My coworker, her son's ex-girlfriend has claimed this twice. She has two children. The first baby, she went to the hospital for stomach pains, and they realized she was in labor. Claimed she never knew.
2nd time, she just told everybody 6 weeks before she was due this past April. She claimed she didn't know.
She had no pre-natal care with either child.
I think it is a mental thing, that they don't want to believe it is happening. My coworker said that she also didn't show either time, so no one else had a clue!

Re: on tv tonight...
I think these women are in denial about being pregnant and it's not that they didn't know. I think that's such cr**! My body has never felt more different since being pregnant and once the baby started moving it's like no other feeling you've ever had and there is no way to mistake a kick, jab, or poke for anything other than a little human being squirming inside of you. I really don't get it and I really don't buy it either. I have irregular cycles too but I would've known if I were pregnant.......you change!! Anyway, I just don't get it, seems insanely impossible to me.

I agree with you. I use to have a friend who "claimed" she didn't know she was pregnant until she was 8 months along. Meanwhile, she looked pregnant (even though she started out overweight). Here's the thing, she was due 2 months after her wedding so everyone said that she knew all along and was in denial about it because she didn't want people to say things about how she got pregnant before getting married. She knew, she just didn't want to accept it so she pretended it wasn't happening for months.

I was overweight to start with and I have been obviously pregnant since 10 weeks or so. Granted i am having twins but still....

Re: on tv tonight...
A very good friend of mine got pregnant with her 2nd while she was on BCP, she didn't know she was pregnant until she was 5 months along, when she noticed she started to gain weight. She had no idea up until that point.
I really don't know though how someone can go a full 9 months and not realize it.

I can see being able to explain some of the symptoms away as something else, but what about movement? By 7 months there was no possible way to explain away my daughter's movements. Plus, if you have more than one unusual symptom or change going on at once, wouldn't someone who was even a little in tune with their body put 2 & 2 together in less than nine months?
I'm convinced denial has to be playing some role in several of these women.

The dr said that they sometimes attribute it to stomach pains or upset. Or not all people feel kicking in the same way, if the baby is in a breach position, etc.
I plan to watch this show. I find it very interesting.

Re: on tv tonight...
i think it is interesting too and i do plan on watching it, however, i have VERY irregular cycles (without metformin) and if i was ever over 60 days with no AF and sexually active, I would take a test and/or call the Dr.
My sister got pregnant with DS#3 while on BCP and when she was 2 weeks late she took a test
I think it will be an interesting show though

Re: on tv tonight...
They showed a clip of it on GMA this morning and truthfully, I thought it was going to be 15 year old girls who just were oblivious, but these people are mid 30's, with loving husbands and they just had no idea... WEIRD.
