On the fence about when to give peanut butter (to avoid allergic reaction)

I know this has been discussed a million times but I am so torn about when to give peanut butter.

DD is 16 mths. Dr wants us to wait due to choking hazard but do you really think some thinly spread PB on toast is a choking hazard?

I don't want to go against my ped, I trust her so much. But I am so worried about waiting and the possibility of not enough exposure leading to allergies.

I gave my kids PB after they turned 1 yr. Technically they say 2 years, but my Ped said 1 yr if there was no family history of peanut allergies

it's a personal decision.

i gave it at 1 year because if there was a reaction, i wanted it to be at home, where i had meds and access to my ped. i didn't want DS taking food off my place at a restaurant one day and having a reaction where i wasn't prepared.

i don't think it's a choking hazard at all. what exactly is there to choke on with creamy PB?

I waited until 2 my ped told me it was a choking hazard - but I later found out he was okay with things like oils just not the actual peanut butter. I have no issues with the fact we waited.

It's a personal decision.

I intend on waiting until after DD is 2yrs old.

I also discussed this with my sister who is a pediatrician but also very laid back and she even told me to wait until the 2 year mark.

Our allergist (who is a total god to me) told me to introduce peanut butter by putting just a teensy bit in between the lower lip and gum. Then do the same over the next 2 days. After 3 exposures if there is no reaction, then there is no allergy.

We did it at 1 year old, because there are no allergies in our familiy.

I started at 12 months and gave a tiny bit off a spoon on her lips. She was fine, had no reaction whatsoever. I now can give her peanut butter spread thinly on wheat bread and she eats that and drinks her milk. It is a personal decision though.

my ped wants me to wait until 2 too, so I am. we have no allergies in our family to nuts, but I'd still rather wait...

I agree its a personnal preference.

No surprise, we didn't wait. DS had PB cookies at 9 months. Now at 14.5 mos, he has PB&J sandwichs at least once a week. He's ok and I wasn't concerned. JMO though.

My ped said to wait until 2 but Dh gave DS a chocolate almond cookie at about 14 months and he ate 2 and had no reaction. I tried to give him PB on a spoon about 6 weeks ago. He took it in his mouth then spit it back at me lol I dont think he liked the consistency. I put some on my finger and rubbed it between his lips and gum so I knew he would actually eat some. He had no reaction but I havent given any to him since. I might try pb on toast Wed morning while we are home together. We have no history of allergy in our family
