On bedrest and scared!

im 17 weeks for an IC, which i never new i had. I lost a baby at 20 weeks in April and i guess this is why.Chat Icon Now from the sounds of it i am not that bad right now, and thank god they caught it now, but ive been doing research on my lovely couch here, and i think a cerclage might be the next step, now my docotors are hesitate about the procedure b/c of the risks, but i know alot of success stories, from cerclage and bedrest, and just bedrest. i think it would give me a piece of mind. is there anything wrong with me demanding a cerclage?? or can i not do that. sorry im just lonely and scared.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Please try not to be scared! Why wouldn't you want the cerclage? I don't know much about them, but I thought they helped with IC?

Re: On bedrest and scared!

I would go for a cerclage in a heartbeat and combine that with bedrest if you have been diagnosed with IC and have a history of a late loss, which you do!!

Youo should also be seeing a high risk OB. You may also want to look into getting a second opinion!!!

Re: On bedrest and scared!

My SIL had IC and has two healthy girls, no cerclage. However, I personally would go for the cerclage and bedrest. I think the benefits outweigh the potential complications (IMO).

Good luck Chat Icon

i TOTALLY agree. if they are hesitant about doing the cerclage now you REALLY should get a second opinion. there is a small risk of infection but with a prior history the benefits, IMO, outweigh the risks. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: On bedrest and scared!

With one late loss...no way, I would have the cerclage or do it MYSELF and ASAP! The risks do NOT outweight the benefits. Iw ould find a Dr who will do it. ANd fast b/c the risks do increase the later gestation the cerclage is put in...many wont do them or dont want to do them past 20 weeks ever.

Good luck !! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Cerclage and bed rest saved my friend's baby. I am sorry you are going through this but the combination of the 2 seems to help keep babies where they belong.

Re: On bedrest and scared!

I lost our son last year also due to IC and I'm VERY surprised your Drs. weren't looking for it and didn't treat it aggressively.
Now, to everyone saying she should have the cerclage done - that's easier said than done at this point. Most Drs. don't want to do it after 16 weeks because the amniotic sac is pushing against the cervix and if she is already having a problem, the risk of infection is HUGE. The risk of piercing the amniotic sac is even HUGER.
So, I'm not saying don't go for a second opinion...I probably would. But I do say, do the bedrest and if your cervix closes up again, they will probably put a cerclage in. If not, they will end up leaving you on bedrest and giving you steroid shots after 23 weeks.
I've done a lot of research on this and am having a cerclage put in next week for this very reason - and I still have to go on bedrest at 20 weeks until I deliver.

My thoughts and prayers are with you....Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

thank you, well i still am a candidate for the cerclage, the baby is still small and ive been doing some research and ive come across tons of women that have gotten cerclages as late as 23 weeks and most around 19. So im really going to push for it.

im sorry u lost your son. Chat Icon
