I;m sorry. I don't get NY papers. Can you elaborate? 120,000 dollars worth of drugs? 120,000 pills? 120,000 cc's of it? Also, what is his ailment? I really hope I am not coming off as a wise guy or insensative, I just don't the story.

I am sorry I did not elaborate .. HE has a cyst that stems from the base of his brain around his spinal cord ...and into his chest

Re: OMG
He's on Medicare though, not private health insurance. The medicare part D drug program is 100% awful, it covers nothing.
I told my mom she better start saving her money because once you retire your on your own, and you have no idea if a terminal illness will hit and you have no options, the government doesnt step up and help at all.
This is an example of the sad reality people face when having to rely on our government.

Re: OMG
Can he turn to hospice?
ETA: "Hospice is paid for through the Medicare Hospice Benefit, Medicaid Hospice Benefit, and most private insurers. If a person does not have coverage through Medicare, Medicaid or a private insurance company, hospices will work with the person and their family to ensure needed services can be provided."

Isn't oxycotin a pain med? Is there anything cheaper that perhaps can be subsitituted? Is the pain meds supposed to help him until he gets the cyst removed?

Re: OMG
Can they maybe start some kind of drive or program for donations up? I heard about this story and it appears its the co-pays and the deductible on the new Medicare drug plan he cant afford. Maybe a local pharmacy could start something up where people could donate? I know if I saw something liek that in the store, Im sure I could spare $10 for a co pay and then if everyone followed suit, at least until something else came his way.
I know the media info on this is going to definatly promote the drug company into trying to negotiate him getting his drugs for free as he was previously.

the cyst is inoperable and yes he can go on any meds but the point is they won't pay

Re: OMG
Its inoperable but not terminal
(still not trying to be a wise guy, just trying to understand so I can help think of alternatives)

From what I read and my understanding, the problem is that without the oxycotin (sp), he would go in to withdrawal from the drug and that will kill him - according to his doctor. That's why there aren't any alternatives for him.
