L.I. Police Make Water Rescues
Eyewitness News
(Port Jefferson - WABC, December 5, 2005) - With not a second to spare, police divers tonight made life-saving rescues pulling two men from the freezing cold water of Port Jefferson Harbor.
One man somehow drove his car off the dock. The other -- a good samaritan who jumped in to save him.
Both men were rushed to St. Charles Hospital with hypothermia.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation.

They think the 70yr old driver just missed the turn at the main st. intersection and drove straight into the water.

I don't understand it either - it was just a little blurb on eyewitness news (channel 7). They gave that story 90 seconds, because they need to devote 31 minutes to the 1/2" of snow we have.

Oh, wow, I was driving behind the police rescue truck that was towing some kind of rescue boat. I couldn't imagine being in that water NOW!!
I am so glad they got the people out!!

just saw another little blurb---apparently the good samaritan rescuer took his shirt off and jumped in the water....the cold water affected him so badly that he wasn't able to save the guy he jumped in for, and had to be rescued himself. It's COLD out there!!!
