Ok, tell me about OPKs

When do I start them? Do I have to do them the same time everyday? What brand are you all using?

Today is CD1 for me and I'm not sure when I am supposed to start all this.

When you start them depends on how long your cycle is. I think some of them come with a little chart that tells you if you cycle is ___ days, start testing on day ___. I have used a few brand...dollar tree, there is a brand at CVS (I think it's called "answer") that comes in a 20-pack of test strips. Both of these are kind of annoying because they aren't the POAS kind. They are the kind that you have to collect a sample and then either use a dropper (the dollar tree ones) or dip the test strip in the sample (the cvs ones are like this). However, I use them because they're fairly cheap!

You are supposed to test around the same time each day. Most of what I've read have said afternoon is bes. You are also supposed to hold your pee for a few hours before using them. GL!

Also, when its a positive two lines are supposed to show and the result line should be DARKER then then then control line (that line automatically comes when you poas) Once you see the positive that means your LH surge is high and that you will "O" within 12-36 hours. BD 3 days in a row.

If its a Negative you will only see only one line and the result line will be lighter then the control line.

For best results you should test twice a day. They say the best time to test is from 11am-8pm.

I ordered them from earlypregnancytest.com. 40 strips for $25 and I've gotten positives on them for 2 cycles. As for when to start, I'd refer to the chart that comes with the OPKs. I'm still irregular since stopping BCP so I start on about CD12 and end up using about 15-20 strips a cycle .

The intructions suggest holding your urine for 4 hours and using the strips between 10am-8pm at the same time each day (not FMU). I do my "4 hour hold" from 4pm-8pm each day.

I'm a big fan though b/c I'd have NO idea when I O'd if it weren't for OPKs (and I started temping this month too).

we got pregnant our first cycle and only used OPK's to track ovulation ...

this is what I did...

I started with the stips (CVS brand 20 for $20) on CD1! I wanted to be able to track from the beginning of my cycle.

Around CD14 I got what I thought was a positive OKP and we BD that night. The next day, I got a negative but we BD that night anyway just in case. I felt O symptoms the following day on CD16 so I bought CBE digitals and to my surprise, I got a smiley on cd16. We BD that night then skipped a night and then BD on cd18 as well. My plan for if we didnt get pregnant that cycle was to continue to use the strips and once I thought I had a positive, I would confirm with the CBE (since they were sooooo much more expensive) BUT they are definitive.

ETS - I also tested with FMU (first morning urine... and always got my most accurate results then. I think you can test at anytime during the day, just make sure you have held your urine for 4+ hours and keep it consistant. If you test at 2pm, test at 2pm everyday!

I didnt see this post until after I responded on the other post.

Im using the CBE OPK this month. Today is CD2 for me. Im going to start using them on CD10 since I know there is no way I can O before that, Ill probably need to buy 2 packs (7 sticks in a pack) but I dont give a **** because Im not playing around this month

Anyway, sorry to go off on a tangent. I would use the CBE. Thats what I used for the first time in June and got pg right away. Once you get that smiley, BD for the next 3 days.

It may take a while to get the smiley since our cycles are a little screwed up right now so dont get discouraged. Im not expecting mine until CD20-23 but Im going to start testing early just in case.

Ok, thank you for your responses. Its very helpful. So FMU is ok to use right? Only worried about this because I can barely go an hour without having to pee, let alone 4

Another question..should I BD only when I get a smiley or when I get my first smiley start bd-ing and continue each night for a while? Sorry to be a pain in the asss with these questions.

Once you see a + I would BD 3 days in a row ...the + is letting you know that in 12-36 hours you will "O" .
