OK seriously, is this that UNcommon? Re: STTN at 4 months Vent
DS does NOT STTN yet. He's 4 months old. But he was also 2 months premature, so he is supposed to be developmentally on par with a 2 months old right now (although he displays many 3 and 4 month old traits).
Anyway, why is it that people love to tell me that he should be STTN by now and why isn't he STTN? Or when they ask how he's sleeping and I answer honestly, I get a "hmph, oh well, you know what you're doing" type of response?
I mean, I thought it was more the norm for a 4 month old to still NOT be STTN than for them to be STTN. It's AWESOME if you have or had a 4 month old (or younger) baby that STTN, but if I'm not upset about it, why are you? (the people in my personal life, not you guys ) YES, I would love for DS to be STTN. Or even sleeping two long stretches at night. But he's a baby, and was TINYYYYY at birth. I'm just so happy my baby that arrived TWO MONTHS premature is actually healthy and happy. I'm sure he'll STTN soon. Yes, I'm trying to get him on a schedule. Yes, I'd love to know what I can do to help him sleep longer or through the night. No, I don't need you to be snitty about it.
Sorry, just had to get that out. Back to your regularly scheduled programs

You need to emphatically tell them that your son is NOT developmentally 4 months old. He's developmentally 2 months old and most 2 months old babies do not STTN.
In fact, I'd say the majority of 4 month olds aren't STTN yet either.
Tell them to go suck an egg.

DS didn't STTN til 7 months old, and I think that's pretty common (esp. if you don't want to CIO at 6 months).

like you said all kids are different. I think it's more common too for kids to STTN from 6-12 months. Plus like you said your DC was premature...that month or two make s BIG difference. Yes, many do it earlier (yes mine did-but I dont think it's the norm either-but they weren't/arent great day nappers). I think it also depends if you BF or FF. I FF my DC but my friends who BF, their kids didnt STTN till they were a little older Don't let others bother you (although I think you really arent from your post-just more venting how annoying people can be LOL)

DS didn't start STTN until he was almost 6 months old....And that only lasted for a month! He was full term... I know kids that are 15 months old that don't sleep through the night...

Um... W-T-FFFFF? STTN is not normal at 4 months, it's great, but not the norm by FAR!! DS was sleeping 7pm to 4am at 4 months, DD still wakes up around 2 am to eat and I am FINE with that. People are weird.

DS didnt start sleeping through the nite until 6months. and by STTN, i mean from 7:30-8 pm until 5-5:30 am. he will not sleep longer than that. sometimes he will go to 6 if im lucky..
tell everyone if they are not getting up with you during the nite ,its none of their business.

Bollocks. My 4.5 month old doesn't sleep through the night. All babies are different, some sleep through, some don't. Tell them to mind their own business.

Ignore them!!!! My DS was up every 3 hours until he was 6 months old!! My DD is up once a night.
Every child is different, so people can go shove it.

DS didn't SSTN until he was 8 or 9 months old, people are really morons.
My neighbor and I were laughing yesterday about how sometimes it would really be nice to be able to go off on people who make stupid comments about your parenting or think it is A-OK to give your child "treats" behind your back People are lovely.

I'm sure you know the saying, "opinions are like a$$holes--everybody has one".....I feel like once you have a baby (or are PG) suddenly EVERYONE becomes an expert and starts giving you tons of unsolicited "advice". Just ignore them. My DS is 4 months old and yes, he is sleeping through the night, but I consider myself lucky and not the norm. I wouldn't expect every other 4 month old (ESPECIALLY a preemie!!) to be STTN and I certainly wouldn't think there was something wrong with your DC for not doing so!

you are going to find that people say alll kinds of crap to you as soon as you have a child. it will never ever end so you might as well get used to it. neither of my kids STTN by 4 months-it's not the norm and i never expected it. my 3 yr old is still in a crib, my one year uses a binky...i bet there are people who would have stuff to say about that-see it can go on and on. i wouldn't give it another thought.

I bet if you told them he did STTN they'd have a comment to make about that too!
DD is 3 & 1/2 months and does not STTN. at least I don't consider it STTN- she sleeps from 10pm-4:45am. People tell me I'm lucky bc most babies her age don't sleep for that long.
you can't win! People will comment on EVERYTHING!

Sydnie in my terms, didn't STTN until 12 months BUT according to others, STTN is considered something lke a 7 hour stretch. To me, 11-6 is NOT STTN, KWIM?
Don't sweat it. People will always find something to say

This is sooo true - people su@k! Ignore them and remind them that technically STTN for an infant is a 6-hour stretch. I don't know if you're getting that - given that your dc's a preemie, frankly I'd be surprised if you were getting so long a stretch since there's a lot of growing and catching up going on so there's a real need to eat at night - but even still, STTN is still only 6 hours. Super-sleepers (like my DD) are pretty much freaks of nature and I'm grateful for it and some gentle sleep training certainly helped but it's not the norm and I feel very lucky! Just ignore them - those people are obviously rather ignorant when it comes to babies.

josh was 20 months old. we woke that morning like what the hell happened? every night since then, sleeps.
people would say let him cry, it is routine...on and on.
baby #2 sleeps like a gem from day 1
it is the baby. they are only babies once. they all have different needs.
people should stay out of it.
here is hoping your baby is next to sttn
