but do you always think someone is out to kill you?

like if you hear a noise in the house - or if you are showering alone? i cant tel lyou HOW many times I will peep out of the shower cutrain looking to see if someone is there when i am showering and DH is not home.

i swear my house is locked up like fort knox however i still feel "scared" and i live in one of the safest cities!

i will be laying in bed and if i dont hear my husband tinkering around i will call out his name because i will get worried that "the murderer" got him


am i sick? he thinks i need help.

No, I'm the same. When I'm showering and DH isn't home, I set the alarm on "stay"

I felt like that A LOT when I lived by myself. It's just irrational fear..it's "normal" really.

I have a degree in forensic psychology...years of studying serial killers and the "criminal" mind took it's toll on me LOL. I have an idea of what humans are cabable of, and sometimes, when something else is bothering me, it's manifested in these fears.

the shower gets me often, but when do you feel most vulnerable...you are naked, wet, and presumably FAR away from an exit.

in my house I feel very safe, BUT outside of my house is a completely different story.

I literally RUN from my driveway to my front door (or from the store to my car) b/c I think someone is going to jump out at me from somewhere and try to kill me!

People always give me the strangest looks... like "why is this woman running at top speed through the parking lot".

Not at all, my husband was away for a few days last month and I swear I never realized how many noises and creaking is in my apt.
Every noise had me totally unerved that someone broke in.
Showering alone in the house is tough for me too. Even though I have the door double locked and chained, I have thoughts of a killer coming into to my shower knife in hand ala Psycho.

No Mel, your not alone on this one...I feel like this especially when I'm in the shower. I feel like someone is going to be behind the shower curtain as soon as I open it

I scare myself so badly if I am sleeping alone, I lock my bedroom door sometimes, in fact did it last night, b/c I woke up from a crazy nightmare

I do not get in the shower if it is dark out and I am home alone

Yes, especially this morning, when it was super windy and the garbage cans were clanking. DH left around 5:30AM and I swore that the garbage can sound was someone attacking him with said garbage can. THen I heard his car drive away, so OBVIOUSLY, that was said attacker driving away with my poor DH's car.
I called him to ensure he was still alive. He called me a wacko.

No, you're not a freak, I often feel the same way. And whenever DH travels it manifests itself even more. When he's not home, I have the cordless phone right next to me as well as the cell phone. I keep the cell phone there just in case the person that breaks into my house to get me cuts the phone lines... this way I at least have another means to call 911.

I am the same way especially with the shower & DH is not home!!! I am always peeking out the shower doors & will check out the windows before getting into the shower.

If I am upstairs & don't plan on going down & DH is not home, then the alarm MUST be on!

If I get up in the middle of the night, I always peak out the windows from the bedroom!

LMAO! I am the same way, I bought a clear shower curtain just so I can see out of it to make sure no one is in the bathroom with me.

Oh, I just thought of more. If I hear any loud voices outside my window in the event that DH is not home, I assume he is surrounded by a large gang that is trying to kill him or beat him up.


If I do not hear from DH in awhile after a late meeting, I assume something must have happened and worry that the hospital wil notl be able to contact me.
If I do not hear from him in awhile and the phone rings, I am afraid it is a friend/family member with some bad news.

Luckily, these situations do not occur very often but I am a complete worrywart nonetheless.

It's never occurred to me that someone would try to kill me, but I've led a pretty non-eventful life. There isn't a lot of quiet time in my house plus I shower with superheroes in the tub. I could always fling an action figure if necessary.
