Ok. Bikini wax.....what do I need to know??

Yes yes. The "furry down there" is one of the ALL time funniest things I have EVER read on here.

But I am looking for new advice.

And don't F'ing tell me it does not hurt.

Anyway.

I have NEVER been waxed before and I'm thinking about getting it done on Saturday for vacation. We leave a week from Saturday.

1. How MUCH does it hurt?
2. Does you hair have to be a certain length? If its long should you "trim" before hand?
3. I shaved last week to clean the bikini line. Obviously it cant be waxed if there is nothing to grab....
4. For a newbie how long will I be in pain?

5. MOST IMPORTANT: For a newbie is it a bad idea to have it done a week before vacation??? Or would you say 1 week is enough to "get over it".
6. Do I go bare? have a landing strip?? I am inclined to go all the way baby!

What do I NEED to know that I DONT know????????

CRAP!

PS. A million (15+ YEARS) ago I started shaving my hello kitty. I remember the first time I ever shaved a significant amount the itching when it grew back in was intolerable. Will that happen again?

Have you ever looked into laser? It is so much better than waxing, and less painful as well. I have no regrets in this investment.

1. How MUCH does it hurt?
It will hurt. Take two Advil before you go.

2. Does you hair have to be a certain length? If its long should you "trim" before hand?
It needs to be long enough for the wax to get a hold of.

3. I shaved last week to clean the bikini line. Obviously it cant be waxed if there is nothing to grab....
right

4. For a newbie how long will I be in pain?
It's quick. Like ripping off a bandaid. But worse. It will sting but it's not a lasting pain.

5. MOST IMPORTANT: For a newbie is it a bad idea to have it done a week before vacation??? Or would you say 1 week is enough to "get over it".
Def fine

6. Do I go bare? have a landing strip?? I am inclined to go all the way baby!
Personal preference

What do I NEED to know that I DONT know????????
Not sure where you're going but I like European wax. They don't use the waxing strips which suck! They don't use any strips, just wax and yes there is a diff.

Yes it hurts, but its tolerable pain. I don't think I've ever heard of someone leaving halfway through a waxing session from the pain.

How long is long? Is it like a 70's porn hair cloud? If yes, trim. If its just somewhat long then leave it alone. They'll trim it if they have to.

I would say the min hair length to get waxed is about 1/8".

One week is enough to get over it.

What do I NEED to know that I DONT know???????? You may be asked to flip over.

Re: Ok. Bikini wax.....what do I need to know??

I started going four years ago and have most of my close friends hooked. Here's my advice! :)

1. How MUCH does it hurt?

I've had eyebrows waxing that hurt more, to be honest. But the first time definitely sucks.. it gets easier as time progresses and you have more waxes done.

2. Does you hair have to be a certain length?
If its long should you "trim" before hand?

This was the biggest thing I was stressed about. I would say... don't trim it. Let them if they need to. I let mine grow all the way out and was shy about my first one but the girl was great and didn't need to trim and I thought it was out of control. Just leave it.

3. I shaved last week to clean the bikini line. Obviously it cant be waxed if there is nothing to grab....

I would wait one more week before going then.

4. For a newbie how long will I be in pain?

15 minutes, max.

5. MOST IMPORTANT: For a newbie is it a bad idea to have it done a week before vacation??? Or would you say 1 week is enough to "get over it".

I think thats perfect timing. I usually go 2 days before a big trip.

6. Do I go bare? have a landing strip?? I am inclined to go all the way baby!
Personal choice. I go all the way but plenty of people do landing strips.

What do I NEED to know that I DONT know????????

Figure out what you'll be doing for the booty, they'll ask.
Take 2 advil before.
Tell them it's your first time.
Know that it'll hurt but it gets better after the first time and the part that hurts the most is the inner parts (near your clitoris). Once thats over, you're golden. LOL.

(Lmao, just realized these could be said in a different scenario)

I remember the first time I ever shaved a significant amount the itching when it grew back in was intolerable. Will that happen again?

My hair grew back finer but I use a scrub from the place I go to (European Wax Center) to prevent ingrowns.

Good luck!

There's a post in the relationship board about this, it's hilarious and scared the crap out of me. Just know it's not THAT bad if you read it. LOL.

Certain areas hurt more than others but the tech will usually slap the area she waxed after each strip to ease the pain lol. The agony beforehand hurts more. Do not let them go with a tweezer to pluck out strays. One woman did that and yanked my cl!t by accident. Oh and do not go to a nail place. European wax centers are good. Read reviews and request the tech that ppl speak highly of. You will realize how out of shape you are when they tell you to spread, lift and keep ur legs in a certain position for minutes at a time. It's quick. Just do it. Go 2 days before vacation. 1 week is too long

I agree with all of this.

I've been getting Brazilians for almost 15 years at this point and yes it still hurts, but its not unbearable. I agree that I've had eyebrow waxes that have hurt more. I would never go back to shaving, I found that way worse.

I prefer all off, but I know plenty of people that do a landing strip, it's a personal preference.

Buy Tend Skin and put it on the day after your wax and the following 3 days after a shower. It helps to relieve razor burn and bumps and also treats ingrown hairs.

I recommend all of the above. Also make sure to go to a wax center of a spa that does it.
Someone on here years ago recommended a nail salon. It was the worst pain ever. I used to go in the city the went to Maximus salon in west bury.

Yes! The tweezing is the worst but I always let them do it. Ouch, she yanked clit? Oy I can't get past that.

My bathing suit is pretty conservative. I've only done the areas that my underwear doesn't cover. So basically it's just the upper inner thighs. I can't imagine doing anything more!

All I know is DH would kill me if I went completely bald. He says it reminds him of a pre pubescent girl.
And tbe thought of yanking hair from the sensitive skin of my clit area sounds like the kind of torture they dole out in prison camps in third world countries. So I am grateful for that! Chat Icon

If you go, please go to a European Wax Center. I went years ago to a Hair Salon and I was literally tearing in pain. I never returned. I had shaved for years. Then last year before a vacation I did a little research and found European Wax Center. They do not use strips, which hurt so much. They use only wax that only adheres to the hair and not your skin. It does hurt but it is bearable. I imagined it would be worse, but honestly it was ok. The more you go, the easier it gets and the less it hurts. They also apply a serum afterwards that helps your skin.

It does not hurt that bad. IMO. lip threading is WAY worse. As advised, take advil or motrin.

DO NOT go during the week before your period. I made the mistake of going the day before period once and OMG the pain (during and after wax).

Curious - how long does a wax last? And not just bikini - legs too.

My eye brows start regrowth within 2 days and lip within 4-5

Is it the same or longer

My wax lasts about 5 weeks. About a week until I see any growth and when it does, it's very fine hair. Week 4 is when it starts looking a little wilderbeasty but I get my period and then just get a wax right after.

I cant give you advice on waxing but I use NAIR!!!
I take it all off

doesnt hurt one bit! I would do a test patch to see how long it takes for it to come off, I usually keep it on about 10 min

I use argan oil after to prevent ingrown hairs or those little red bumps

Not going to lie, it does get a bit itchy when it grows back

Nair has a new cocoa butter formula for sensitive skin and its my new go to

Re: Ok. Bikini wax.....what do I need to know??

The first time will be the worst. You may want to ease into it and not go full on Brazilian for your first time. Take 2 Advil an hour before. Definitely don't go around the time of your period. You will be much more sensitive. It should get less painful as time goes on. It's also over pretty quickly.

I'd try to go 2-3 days before vacation. I think a week may be too long. Definitely go to a place that specializes in waxing and not a nail salon. Your hair should be at least as long as a grain of rice.

Depends on rate of hair growth. Different for everyone. My hair is very fine and light. I only have to shave 2x a week as my hair grows slow. I haven't gone for a Brazilian wax in awhile but as I recall I went every 8 weeks or so.

I never had legs waxed as hair only really grows below my knees. Again, very light and fine so shaving is all that is needed.
