Oh lordy - heres an interesting convo I just overheard at work
This woman who sits in the cube diagonal from me (we'll call her Lisa), was talking to the woman across from her. Lisa is pregnant and was talking about raising her kid in the catholic church...OK so far so good. She was saying that she and her DH would prefer a unitarian church, but and I quote "there are gays and lesbians that go to those kinds of churches", "I dont want my DC exposed to those kinds of people though, or my DC exposed to kids who have two moms or two dads". 
Then she goes on to say how shes not a bigot but wouldnt be OK with those kinds of people hugging her DC bc she knows logically that they arent molesters but you just never know and their kind make her uncomfortable, especially around children.
OMG - first of all, fine, to each their own, even though Im disgusted by her opinion.
But secondly - who says that AT WORK loud enough for the surrounding cubicles to hear you?
Once she said the second statement about the molesters, several people, myself included all went "gasp, Lisa" at the same time.
Just bc you think it, doesnt mean you should say it!!!! Especially if you dont know your audience. Its kind of a bummer bc I really like her, but Ive just lost A LOT of respect for her.

Maybe she thinks it's like the internet, she was only talking ot one person, so only that person could hear her?
But really, people are just stupid and I wouldn't waste my time trying to correct her ignorance.

yeah if that was my office, a brawl would have broken out... there are a few openly gay people around here, all in committed relationships, and 2 with kids!

there arent really here, but that doesnt mean someones sister or brother or friend or I dont know, lets say my childhood best friend or Uncle arent gay....
You could tell by the collective gasp that people couldnt believe what they were hearing.

I have to give credit to the girl she was talking too, bc she said "Dont you think she will be exposed to different kinds of people just in school or life" and then said "I honestly dont know what to say bc Im kind of horrified by the comments"

 People disgust me.
She's totally not a bigot though.
ETA: Totally agree that a brawl would've ensued in my office- a few of my co-workers are openly gay.

she just kind of giggled and was like "well, its not like I actually think they are all molesters" and then the rest of us dropped it and just started iChatting about it.

Exactly. Its so hard to believe that no matter how far we have come, people still have this way of thinking...
I've been part of some real doozie of discussions regarding homsexuality, and I've had to leave the office due to the ignorance. It's really disgusting, & absoultely vile the way people think & speak sometimes.

OMG is all I have to say. You should pat yourself on the back for not saying anything because I don't think I would have been able to hold myself back.
People will think whatever they want but to publicize your thoughts on such a sensitive subject at work or anywhere that you may offend someone is absolutely ridiculous.
She obviously is a close-minded person that will never change and is going to raise her children to be racist and judgemental. I truly hope that her children realize at some point in their lives that the views of their mother are not the views they have to believe in.
