ODonnell's IVF Journal: Final Update 1/20/10
I can't believe my cycle has officially started! I have been hesitant to write an IVF journal because I'm thinking far forward to my final entry on this post and I'm not sure how I would handle announcing a BFN. But, I have really enjoyed following everyone else's progress and IVF journey, so I will share my story too...
Me: 41
DH: 43
TTC: 2 years. 1 miscarriage, 1 chemical.
Dx: Originally, diminished ovarian reserve. Since having laparoscopic surgery in Nov. for ovarian cysts, my gyno discovered I also have endometriosis. Best cure: pregnancy!
Protocol: Estrogen priming (supposed to be good solution for those 40+ for better response and better quality eggs).
October 2009: Started back-to-back bcp until mid-Dec (3 packs).
12/30/09: Blood work to see if ovulation occured - nope! - but nearly.
1/4/10: Blood work and sono. 2 large cy sts on left ovary (same side I had surgery on). Dr. thinks they are just residual cysts from ovulation. Ovulation occured and we are good to go! Start on estrogen patch 1x a day and dexamethasone pill every am.
1/5/10: Starting acupuncture. I am excited! I did acupuncture before for a back injury and really felt the benefits.
1/11/10: AF arrived right on schedule and today is CD3. I finished the Climara patch (estrogen) when AF started. Went for BW and sono and there is still one 17mm cyst on that problem left ovary. Dr. is not too concerned because all levels came back good. Tonight I start 675 iu of Gonal-F for 3 days and then drop it to 600 iu for another 4 days. Still on the Dexamethasone, which is giving me heartburn but I have loads of energy (is this something I can be on permanently I wonder...) 
1/15/10: Started Menopur last night. The nurse forgot to order it with the rest of my drugs so I had to wait up until midnight for a Kraupner delivery, but all is good. No sensations or bloating yet.
I am loving the acupuncture. The practitioner is SO nice and his two girls are the result of IVF.
I go for monitoring on Monday and am really nervous about the number of follies because I'm a poor responder. Praying for at least 4 after this high dosage of drugs. 
1/18/10: Monitoring today and a very disappointing report. Only two good looking follies and a couple smaller, with all on my left side. My Dr. wants to proceed with the retrieval later this week and try to get at least one good egg. I have to stay on the Gonal-f and Menopur until I get checked again on Wed. Dr. said this is probably the best result I could get regardless of the very high dose of meds. It's out of my control, but I am praying one or two more might catch up 
Final Update 1/20/10: Well, today's sono showed only one follicle at 15 and my e2 has dropped too. Dr. thinks I ovulated - I TOLD him on Monday that I felt like I was about to. So, this cycle is cancelled.
I'm doing pretty good, considering. He did mention donor eggs first but then felt he might try another protocol next month, so we will do another cycle with much lower doses next time.

I look forward to reading your updates. I am also starting my meds in couple of days and plan to do acupuncture starting next week. I I am glad to see someone cycling at the same time. I aml be curious to see how your cycle goes so I have something to compare to. Good luck, I hope this works out for you.

im on dex too and it DEF helps with the energy levels!!
however that wasnt such a good thing at 3am this morning when i was WIDE awake!!
do you have trouble sleeping from it?
i used to be a gal that couldnt live without 6-8 hours of sleep and now 4-5 is like plenty!!
i guess its early training for when there is a baby around!!

No problems, sleeping, thankfully. I think I run around so much during the day that by 9:30 I'm exhausted.
