NYC Marathon 2013 runners...

It was the most fun marathon I've run. I added almost 30 minutes to my time because I had to stop to take pictures , high five people, look at my surroundings and just enjoy it. I doubt ill ever get in via the lottery again and I wanted to enjoy every second.

Brooklyn was pretty but we were on 4 th avenue for a very long time. Then you come to the queens pro bridge which is very steep a d difficult. This is mile 15 already. Half way over you can not only hear, but feel the roar of the crowd from 1st avenue It was breathtaking. Really brought tears to my eyes and I stopped for a moment t to soak it all in

After that is the Bronx. They crowds there were also amazing. But as we ran into Harlem the energy was again overwhelming. The people there were amazing. The culture of the area came through in their entertainment and cheers.

Finally you head back to manhattan and Central Park. There, you have no choice but to run your heart out. The crowds cheers refuse to let you stop and they carry you to the end.

Simply amazing. The most enjoyable marathon if my life.

I loved every moment of the run.

However, the five hour wait at the start was cold and painful. I have two injuries, my knee and hip were both broken, And the cold long wait made my first 6 mies very painful. I wish they had better a accommodations for us at the start. The late start time also presented a problem for me. I don't sleep the night before a big event like this. Then you have N early start because you must be in SI before the bridge closes. Finally, you wait. And wait. I was tired before it began.

I went Ito this just wanting to finish and enjoy it. So this didn't bother me. If I wanted a competitive time, however, I would be angry.

Congratulations!
I heard the wait was terrible mostly because of the temps. Hope you're joints are feeling better today. Actually, how are you feeling this morning physically?

I was part of the 1st Ave crowd. I was around the 17 mile for a while. Than walked down to the 59th st bridge to see everyone coming off it.

The 1st time I ever went out to cheer on the runners. And it was AMAZING!
I was emotional watching the runners and didn't know anyone in it.

But seeing the runners find their family and friends in the crowd was something to see. So many of them stopped to hug, kiss and take pictures with the their supporters.

I loved hearing the spectators shouting out names of runners (a lot had their names on their shirts) encouraging them to keep going. So inspiring!

ETS: If you're comfortable with it, I would love to see some of your pics. I'm going to update my post with some I took.

NYC Marathon 2013 runners...

As soon as I get home I am going to upload the pictures. Today, I feel great. I've never felt this good the day after a marathon. I'm not sure if its still adrenaline but I feel fine other than the blisters on my toes (ouch) but I'm at work and I'm a teacher (obviously on my lunch period) and I've been on my feet all day and feel great.

Re: NYC Marathon 2013 runners...

This was my first full Marathon and I fundraised to get in. I wanted to do it last year but was pregnant so I made a promise to do it to myself this year. It was a great experience. I wish I wasn't so anxious though i really would have enjoyed it more! However Brooklyn was amazing the crowds the people it was great! However you are there for quite a long time! The 59th street bridge is super steep many people were walking! 1st avenue was amazing my husband and everyone was there cheering! I loved the Bronx and Harlem! However nothing beats entering Central Park! The crowds and people cheering for you was amazing! I didn't care about my time at all and had no expectations but to finish! I wanted to take it all in and I did I stopped to see my family and take pics. It was def tough by mile 22 I was done exhausted my legs were so heavy i wanted to cry i really did but somehow I finished!!!

Congrats to everyone who finished!!!

Congrats everyone!

I had a good race, the bottom of my foot was bothering me the entire time, but I tried to ignore it (it's a stupid callus that acts up because of the way my foot is striking). Despite that, I pulled off a 15+ minute PR!! I was very excited about that.

Great job - this was my 3rd NYC and I can still say with confidence that this has to be one of the toughest courses even though I've never run any different marathons.

Totally agree! Each time I've run this, I was exhausted by the time we started.

I do the same thing!! But at the same time we completed that grueling training so I think that counts as being "marathoners". I seriously think I'm going to cry when I finish!!

You might! I started to cry a little around mile 25, and not just because I was so freaking tired.
