Our certificate from city hall says "Marriage Certificate".

The sacrament of our marriage took place in a Catholic Church.

The State would need to make all "marriages" "civil unions" in order to separate and clarify.

As it stands Marriage is both religious and civil.

ETA: If the state wants to take out the religious connation of "marriage" call ALL unions civil (hetero or homosexual).

It is discriminatory IMO to call one marriage and one union.

Re: NY state lawmakers reject gay marriage bill

why is it that we can't get over this bias on same sex marriages/unions. People who do not even love or care for each other who are straight get married, people get married for "sinful" reasons all the time so what the hell is it such an issue when two "gay" people who love each want to get together.

Re: NY state lawmakers reject gay marriage bill

i was really excited b/c i thought that NY would wake the F up and FINALLLLYYYY legalize same sex marriage/union whatever you want to call it

i was disgusted when i saw that clearly, that is not the case and we still live in a world where the gay community cannot experience the same unity as a man and women

and it also sickens me that there are still people in the world that feel that being gay is a "disease" Chat Icon

So sad and upsetting. It truly saddens me that people are denied the right to marry based on sexual orientation.

It disgusts me that we live in a time where there are so many ignorant people.

Such a sad day Chat Icon

I guess some people are just ignorant including me . Don't get me wrong. I have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING against gay people (and anyone who knows me knows this). But I 'm just not for gay marriage, sorry.

(and in my head I'm thinking : I am going to get sooooo flamed for posting this Chat Icon )

You are entitled to your opinion, and shouldn't have to defend yourself. Obviously many people in government agree with you.

But... justice is supposed to be blind. Blind to color, religion, economic status, and sexual orientation. Policy makers need to set aside their personal beliefs in order to do what's fair for all people. Last I checked, we have a seperation of church and state in this country.

Just my humble opinion.

I agree with this. Of course everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, and I don't honestly think anyone is flaming you...

I also don't really think THIS post is the place, obviously everyone is discussing what a travesty it is that this was rejected...I don't know, time and place for everything I suppose.

My family has friends who are a lesbian couple, they have three children together and have been together since I was at least 10 (their first child was born when I was 14) so that is 19 years. WHY can't they be married? WHY? They are more "normal" then a lot of opposite sex couples...

It is a disgrace IMO

I was so disappointed by our senate yesterday. Not to mention the mockery they made of the institution in June. I heard that 99% of NYS Senaters who run for re-election win. They have been sitting on easy street up there and I think it's time that the people of NYS woke up.
