Re: Not Volunteering.....

Volunteering is something personal that is done because someone finds fulfillment with it - not something done to gain superiority and cast moral judgements on those who do not.
Apparently the people attacking you missed the memo.
Don't let them get to you! You do what you feel comfortable with and don't let anyone's selfish comments make you think less of yourself.
Well said!

It's called volunteering--not you have to. Like you said, you volunteer when you are able to. Don't sweat it!
Well, I was told EVERYONE has an obligation to volunteer!!!
Ouch, that's harsh!
Do what you can and if right now you don't have time to volunteer, so be it. That doesn't make you a bad person.

I understand the thougth behind "everyone has an obligation to volunteer" like JFK "Ask not.."
But I also think it does more for society at large if your own kids are well fed and taken care of and you keep your job and don't end up on welfare... So there's a balance for everything. I disrupt my entire workweek to volunteer, and I think it does hurt my job performance slightly. I'm not sure yet if it's worth it. I struggle to volunteer for one hour, and I don't even have kids..so i completely understand.
maybe these women have different lifestyles because they're not from NY? They don't work full time with a commute and small children and a mortgage etc?

Re: Not Volunteering.....
Call me selfish but my number one priority time wise is my family. I do not volunteer but I am very big on donating and helping out those in need. I wish I had the time to volunteer and I guess I could find the time. But if I rushed myself then I don't feel as if I could give my daughter my all. To me that's just as important to society.
