NOT going to nursery school

did anyone NOT sign dc up for nursery school and regret it?

DD is in full time daycare and has been since 5 months. She loves it there, we love it there. It's a home based daycare but there is a curriculum for the older kids. She learns so much there, knows her letters, their sounds, numbers, colors, etc. So I just don't see a need for nursery school especially when they are all for like 3 hours in the middle of the day! I don't even know how we could swing that.

I just want to make sure I'm not making a mistake by not sending her to nursery school.

eta: next year she will attend pre-k either 3 full days or 5 full days.

if you plan on sending her to prek next year I think you are fine.

eta: my DD has been going to a daycare sent since she was 12 weeks old so they always had a curriculum for all age however if I was doing what you are doing I wouldn't have sent her to nursery school at all; It sounds like she is learning what she would be learning in nursery school anyway

Re: NOT going to nursery school

If it makes you feel better......................

My DD is now 7 and in 2nd grade. I never sent her to nursery school. For her, I didn't find it necessary and being that I'm a certified PreK-6th grade teacher I felt it was a waste of money for me to send her when I had the ability to teach her all of the basics for school. Instead, I enrolled her in music classes, library classes, dance classes, and other fun experiences.

She's an EXCELLENT student, she was reading on her own within the first month of Kindergarten, she isn't struggling at all, and she adjusted beautifully to school.............I was a disaster, lol, but she got right on the bus and loved school from day one.

I do NOT regret my decision one bit, I felt that not sending her was the right decision for my DD at the time and if I had to do it over again, I wouldn't change a thing. Only you know your child, if you don't think she needs it, don't send her. IMO, PreK is not critical to a child's success in Kindergarten however, it's also NOT a bad thing if a child attends. And for some kids, they do need that break-in period before Kindergarten. It really just depends, on what you feel most comfortable with. If you're happy with where she is now and you think that's the right place for her, just leave it be.

Good luck!

NOT going to nursery school

i think nursery schools are for kids who have SAHMs, or who have a grandparent or other family member watching them..... so that the kids can get used to being in a "school" setting with other kids, and being away from their mom, or main person who watches them.
since your daughter is already in a daycare/school type setting and sounds like she's learning what she would in nursery school anyway- i think you're fine!

I didn't send DD to nursery school. She will be in upk in September. I don't regret my decision. She has the rest of her life to be in school. I used this year to enroll her in gymnastics, dance, and just let her be a kid.

Re: NOT going to nursery school

My dd (my 3rd child) will not be going to nursery school next year. She goes to an in-home daycare 3 days a week and takes dance classes as well. We decided she gets the socialization we would look for at daycare, so we are going to keep her there and forgo nursery. My older two went to nursery school but did not go to daycare.

IMO, your DD does not need to go to nursery school. She's in a group setting, learning the basics, that's basically what nursery school is.
