Re: Non TTC related.. anyone ever had wisdom teeth pulled??
Also if you're not going to be put to sleep for it (which was the only way for me since i'm deathly afraid of the dentist) make sure you get the sweet air and novacaine!!

Re: Non TTC related.. anyone ever had wisdom teeth pulled??
I had all 4 at once done...i recommend doing it that way because you won't want to go back for the others!
It hurt- yes, I'm not gonna lie. BUT it's better then the pain I was going through with them in. I didn't swell up like a chipmunk until like 3 days later....& boy did I swell!! LOL
The pain itself only lasts like 3 days, then it's just annoying b/c you can't eat anything......ice cream was nice though

Re: Non TTC related.. anyone ever had wisdom teeth pulled??
yes, I had all 4 pulled. I was knocked out, when I came to, I was very groggy (as to be expected)
My mom took me to the pharmacy and ran in to fill my prescription for pain meds
unfortunately, it took like 1/2 hour and by this time, I was in so much pain. Once I took the pain meds, I was fine though
I was swollen for a day or two
I had them all pulled on a friday and was back to work on MOnday (about 10 lbs lighter cause I could not chew anything all weekend )
my advice, take your pain meds every 4 hours like clockwork for the first 1-3 days and you will be fine

Re: Non TTC related.. anyone ever had wisdom teeth pulled??
it was actually not bad at all.
  I had 4 done (not at once..LOL)
the two on my right side were impacted bad..so bad that the dr. had to walk a fine line with touching the nerve canal
afterwards i had some swelling and it bled for the rest of the day. MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE ICE ON LIKE THEY TELL YOU. its very important to reduce the swelling.
the 2nd time i had it done i was home alone and couldnt keep the ice on like i should have b/c i fell asleep. and the swelling the next day was worse.
I didnt have much pain though..just some swelling.
You will be fine!! I was so scared the first time, but once they knock you out, its the best sleep ever!!

Re: Non TTC related.. anyone ever had wisdom teeth pulled??
I had out 2. The first one had the root exposed- OUCH! I could not wait for the novacaine etc. It hurt like ^%^*(!. I bleed a lot and was out of it for a few days. The second one that I had out was by a different dentist and it was a piece of cake compared to the first one. I only had to take advil, and I had alot of Wendy's frostys! It took some time for the hole to close up , but it was alot easier the second time. Now if yiou want to talk root canal......

Re: Non TTC related.. anyone ever had wisdom teeth pulled??
I had a great experience having my 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed. I was knocked out and had a really quick/relatively painless recovery. I would say the day after the surgery is the worst but by no means agonizing. The most painful thing post-op is drinking from a straw - I'd avoid it!! Good luck!

ETA: I have had 2 root canals (at different times). I had a problem with one of the teeth after the surgery because pressure was building up inside once they closed the tooth up. I had to go back several times to have the tooth opened to let out the pressure. I would say that random pain was way worse than the root canal or the 4 wisdom teeth removal. My dentist said that this was a very rare thing but it was so annoying!!

Re: Non TTC related.. anyone ever had wisdom teeth pulled??
I had all 4 pulled at the same time and all 4 were impacted to the bone. I got anestesia, and remember being in and out the whole time. When they finished and tried to get me up out of the chair, I remember being able to think that I couldn't stand, but i couldn't figure out how to say that I couldn't do it. It was very weird. I actually had a 3 hour ride home from the oral surgeon, so by the time I got home I was in pain becuase I needed more pain killers. My parents got those, I took them for the first day or two, and by the third day I was completely normal. My face was swollen, but aside from that, it wasn't half as bad as I had expected! Good luck!

Re: Non TTC related.. anyone ever had wisdom teeth pulled??
I did:
2 on the left side by one dr. everthing went fine
I got a new job with different insurance. Went for the other two. Well they only took out the one and when I woke up my one side of my face was swollen and my arm was all bruised (from the needle poking - apparently they could not find a vein) It was horrible. Make sure you have good recommendations for the doctor you are using

UGh root canal- my first one was not too bad, my second one was a nightmare. he had to fix what another dentist screwed up, who said he gave me root canal and he did not! I was very relaxed when I got the root canal- I was falling asleep in the chair- the worst was having to keep my mouth open for that long, and the impression of the tooth, it made me nauseous. The first root canal was not too bad, the second one got infected and I was miserable- one of the worst pain I ever had- I was walking around crying . I had to go on antibiotics and pain pills- at first I was too stubborn and scared to take the pain pills, but I had an awful migraine and I had no choice- afdter I gave in the pain killers were my best friend. Good luck on your wisdom teeth and root canals.

I had 2 pulled at once. One was painful but it was infected. They other 2 I had pulled one a time and I had no problems. One I had pulled the afternoon before my brothers wedding, I was so worried that I was gonna blow up. But no complications at all.

Re: Non TTC related.. anyone ever had wisdom teeth pulled??
happy birthday to your DH De!
Okay-mine was terrible-all four, impacted and I had 2 dry sockets.
  DH-all 4-ate a hamburger the next day.
Key is take the meds with consistency-dose them out every 4-6 hours. Don't wait until it hurts. Gargle with warm water and salt. Try not to chew on that side. No straws or anything that might get air over by the sutures. Once the stiches are out, I will get you a dental syringe from my SIL/dentist and use that to clean over there. If you are in pain now, you will feel relief when they are gone. I also had a cyst, which added to it. Call me if u need anything.

Re: Non TTC related.. anyone ever had wisdom teeth pulled??
i had the right side done first and then the left side a few months later. i was knocked out cause im a big chicken. i woke up not remembering a thing and the healing time wasnt too bad. its the stitches that are a PITA! chew very slowly and take the pain meds as needed. i was fine within a few days for both. i could eat normal food again within a week.

Re: Non TTC related.. anyone ever had wisdom teeth pulled??
I had a pretty bad experience. But I had all 4 of mine done at the same time and they were all impacted. It wasn't so bad during. Just the basic "you might feel some pressure", and the noise which is probably one of the worst parts of going to the dentist. Afterwards is another story. My whole face was swollen and I was very sore. And to top things off, I had a bad reaction to the pain medication so just had to suffer through it over the next few days.
DH had his done and was pretty much back to normal in a day. I guess everyone is different. Good luck!

Re: Non TTC related.. anyone ever had wisdom teeth pulled??
I did this last year before my wedding. I got 3 out at one time, 2 out of the 3 were impacted.

My feeling on getting everyone's advice is .... it's only natural to want to hear about other people's experience, but to be honest it's SO split. There are people who claim they went dancing the night after the surgery, and people who sat for 5 days with ice packs. Everyone's experience is different because everyone's case is different.. impacted vs. not impacted, higher tolerance for pain, etc.
The best you can do is prepare for it to be a an awful experience but HOPE that it's not as bad.
For me, the pain was bad for almost a week, but I have to say the WORST part was the anestethia. I hated waking up and not knowing what was going on! I think I may have had a weird reaction to it. That being said though, I know if I experienced being awake for the surgery it wouldn't have been much better. I'm just glad it's done!

Good luck, try not to think about it, if that's at all possible! When I had to get it done, I got it done THE DAY AFTER I found out I had a bad infection. So, I didn't have much of a chance to dwell on it. When I arrived for the appointment, I already in pain from having an infection in my mouth.
Keep us updated and know we will all be thinking about u and sending non-swelling vibes!!

One more thing- stock up on pudding! (My parents ran out to get frozen yogurt the day of the surgery and it was so cold, it hurt to eat! ... pudding may be a better option, as it was for me!)

Re: Non TTC related.. anyone ever had wisdom teeth pulled??
I had to get all 4 of mine out. I also got two out at a time. I am the biggest baby, and I honestly did not think it was bad at all. I was afraid to get knocked out, so I was awake for it. I just listened to music and closed my eyes. lol It was over soo quick I couldn't believe it!!! =) Both of mine were impacted and I was fine. Afterwards, I just took tylenol and I was fine. I ate Friendly's ice cream too which was a plus. haha Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope it goes well for you. I am sure it will.

I had all four removed at the same time when I was 18 and my parents were in Europe for the summer visiting my brother. So i was all alone.
I will be honest, I had a horrible experience, but ONLY because they got infected. I am so glad I got all four out at once, that way I never had to worry about it again.
I know a lot of people who have gotten them removed, and I am the only one that had any problems. It is certainly not fun, but you will be fine.

thank you for your reply! and ouch.. that stinks you got an infection..
i do have to get all 4 pulled.. but the 2 on the other side will be done at another time.. i am such a wimp..

i had all 4 done at once even though i only needed 2 done at the time. i highly recommend getting them all done at once. i was in some pain, but nothing that brought me to tears. the painkillers didn't help, but ice packs were my best friends for the first 3 days.
