No alcohol while TTC??

We aren't TTC until I finish my BCP pack (which will be May 15th!! and then the next day I meet with my RE). But I was talking to DH last night about alcohol. I don't think I feel comfortable drinking while we're TTC. I'm worried that if I do get pregnant, I obviously won't know for a couple weeks after and don't want to risk it. DH would much rather me not drink.

I don't drink all the time...pretty much just a social drinker/weekend.

Anyone else give up alcohol while TTC? Am I being overly cautious?

It's okay to drink! The baby doesn't share your blood supply until 6 weeks. If you test when AF is due, that's typically 4 weeks so you will be fine.

I think ur ok because you don't share blood with the fetus until later on. Experts correct me if im wrong...

You don't have to stop drinking until you get a bfp.

You don't have to stop until you get your BFP --- you don't share blood until 6 weeks.

You should start taking prenatals though ---I take the Target brand

I agree. Plus, if it takes a little while, you will be without alcohol for 9 months PLUS all the time you may be TTC. I wouldn't binge drink but having a drink every so often is totally fine.

Heck NO I didn't give up drinking while TTC!!!

It definitely won't hurt you to stop drinking when you start TTC, especially if your DH would prefer it too. If DH had asked me to stop I would have seriously considered it.

But our bodies are incredibly smart. From what I've read you don't share a blood stream with the baby until about 5 weeks or so....or about one week after you miss your period. So you're given a sort of "grace period" before you would realize your pregnant so you can't do much damage.

I agree with all the other posters. I have read in books that you should not be drinking often. That is my plan.
That being said... when AF showed yesterday I had a delicious Blueberry Ale last night.

Thank god for this post!!!! I really dont drink on the weekdays but the weekends are different story. I had to glasses of red wine yesterday and that was it. People who know me will tell you thats very little.

I rarely drink and DH doesnt drink at all, but when I talked to my doctor she said it was fine to lightly drink but excessive drinking on either mine or DH's part can hurt our chances of getting pregnant.

We rarely drink but I'm not cutting out alcohol. If you are TTC and following your cycle then you will know at 4 weeks when you miss your period. Excessive drinking can prevent pregnancy though. But then again how many people get drunk and get knocked up

I've weaned myself off the hard stuff and am now just drinking wine. I also cut down my intake. I'm working towards gettng my mellow from tea

I did not give it up while TTC and I am so happy I didn't, 9 mths is a long time

I made sure to test right away though as to not risk drinking while being newly pregnant.

We knew by 10DPO, which is like no weeks pregnant I would not be comfortable drinking 3, 4 ,5 weeks pregnant--though MANy women do not find out until then. Baby does not share blood supply until 6 weeks so doctors say it IS okay (just not for m comfort level )

My dr. Told me (half-jokingly) to have sex every other day after my period until I finish ovulating and drunk a lot of wine.

She was basically telling me to relax.

This was a while ago. I'm not ttc now. Maybe late summer/early fall. I just lurk here bc I have the fever.

I kinda did.. after I got my smiley, I stopped. I wasn't comfortable at all.. so its upto you and I just didnt do it for my own personal reasons.

I'm not giving up wine or sushi till isee that extra line. It'll be difficult enough for me to give it up for 9 months or more bc I plan to breastfeed.

I don't think you need to cut drinking out completely, maybe have 1 or 2 but I wouldn't go over that...
