newbie here!

Hello all!

I am a newlywed who got married in Aug 07. I went off my BC about 1 month before the wedding. We have been trying ever since with no luck so far. I was on BC for 6 years.

I am looking for recommendations on OPKs.

Thank You!

Welcome Chat Icon Chat Icon It really depends on what you like. I like the First Response ones that have the lines. I find that seeing the progression helps me better. Some like the Clearblue Digital ones with the Chat Icon

I have been using mymonthlycycles.com to try to predict my O date, but I am not sure if it is accurate.

Re: newbie here!

My monthly cycles uses the average woman's cycle, you might not ovulate 14 days. I would pick up a thermometer and start charting your temps. It is actually really intersting, and I find it gives me a sense of control, because when you are TTC, the lack of control drives me nuts. But here is lots of Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon for you!

Welcome!

You need to get a basal body thermometer (BBT) and take your temperature every morning at the same time after you've had 3 hours solid sleep and before you do anything (get out of bed, talk, eat, drink, go to the bathroom, etc). It sounds pretty involved, but really it's pretty easy - I keep mine tucked in the fitted sheet Chat Icon so that I don't have to reach across DH and as soon as the alarm goes off I take my temp, sometimes I even doze off while taking it! Chat Icon The thermometer I have is digital and saves the temp until you take another, so I don't even look at it usually because at that time I'm either rolling back over to get some more sleep or I'm heading to the gym.

I plug my temps into fertilityfriend.com and it produces a chart. I've really learned so much about my cycle and like a previous poster said, I think it provides a sense of control. The fact that you've been trying a while and haven't had any luck may just be down to the fact that you're not ovulating when you think you are - temping will help you pinpoint your O date.

Good luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: newbie here!

b/c i couldn't remember to take my temp every morning, i found it easiest to just use OPKs to find out if/when i was Oing. temping will not tell you when you are about to O, it will tell when you already did O, so it's only really good if you want to try and figure out your cycles. if you have fairly regular cycles, you can just use OPKs for now. some people like the digital ones because they give you a Chat Icon when you get your LH surge so there is no need to interpret lines, but i liked the regular OPKs (i liked the clear blue easy) and i found that it wasn't hard at all to interpret the lines.

just make sure (b/c i didn't know at first!) that you DO NOT use FMU unless you are using the CBEFM (clear blue easy fertility monitor) - LH is metabolized during the day so it doesn't show up as a surge in your urine until the afternoon. it's best to test betwen 4pm and 10 at the SAME TIME each day.

i hope this helps you - good luck!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Hey we have the same name! I'm a newlywed too... September '07. Chat Icon

Anyway, I recommend the CBE Digitals. I started out using the Answers (with the 2 lines), but I swtiched after a couple of days because I felt too frustrated by interpreting them. The digitals leave no room for intepretation, although they are a bit more expensive. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Welcome to the board!!!

I agree with Dani- our first month trying I used an OPK with the lines and I had NO patience for interpreting! It was so frustrating. I am going to go with CBE Digitals this month! I definitely think it is worth the extra $$.

Good Luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
