Re: New Jersey help

If I was working in the city I think I would move to the Millburn/Short Hills area. I love it there. I grew up in Princeton which I LOVED, which was I think 45 min train ride. When we have kids I would love to move back there.

Re: New Jersey help

Just recently moved down to the Jackson area (Six Flags), I take a bus from there to midtown. The bus costs 300 per month, the company also service to downtown and uptown locations - not just port authority. The ride is only an hour and fifteen minutes. You are also closer to the shore, for summer fun.

Something to consider if you are not concerned with going farther south.

Re: New Jersey help

we are in union county...

when we were house hunting we looked in summit, chatham, madison, berkeley heights, new providence and westfield.

i drive to work (eastbound around the meadowlands), with traffic it's 40-45 minutes, without 35.

DH takes the train to NYC. it takes him 1 1/4 hours because he has to switch either at hoboken or take a subway from penn downtown. we wanted to make sure we had a midtown direct option as well as downtown in case jobs change along the way...

Re: New Jersey help

I live in Dunellen, central NJ. Neighboring towns are Green Brook, Piscataway, Warren, Watchung, South Plainfield, Bridgewater. We really like it here. When I used to commute into the city, it would take me about 1.5 hrs, but that is because the train in Dunellen goes to Newark and then you switch to go to NYC. Best bet is to look into towns that go straight to NYC - but then, like someone else said, there could be a parking waiting list. We lucked out, we live about 6 blocks from the train station.
