New Hope, PA?
I just got a living social deal for a B&B in Stockton, NJ which is near New hope, PA.
DH is wary because he worries there's nothing to "do" there, especially since it's winter.
I said, that's kind of the point
But seriously, what is there to do there, and would it be better to wait until Spring?
I only bought the deal for one night, though I was thinking we could drive out there on Friday night, stay over somewhere cheap, and then head to that area in the morning so we'd have 2 full days.
it also looks like every weekend I looked at is booked up. Is this the kind o trip it may be worth taking 2 days off from work for?

Hey where was the deal for. We have gone a stayed there a few times. We love it over there. We stay a the Woolverton Inn. Its beautiful. Very romantic, quiet, serene...etc.
We love eating in The Station in Lambertville (on the jersey side). Food is AWESOME.
Also, Marsha Brown's In New Hope on Main Street AMAZING.

Re: New Hope, PA?
OMG I got that Living Social email as well - that is for the Woolverton Inn which DH and I went to for his bday a couple of years back... It was recommended by many of the gals on here that we go there. It was AMAZING. I've been wanting to go back ever since - and it's funny, we went in August b/c that's DH's birthday but I said next time we come back I want it to be in the winter! They have beautiful fireplaces in the rooms - well, not sure if all of the rooms have them - we stayed in a cottage. We stayed in the Hunterdon - it was BEAUTIFUL. Each room has a journal in it and each guest who stays leaves a little story or they just sign that they were there, etc. It is great to sit and read through the entire book!
They have board games in the room and we actually sat in bed and played board games! It was a great way to reconnect - our room overlooked a sheep pasture and I would sit in the HUGE soaking tub, gorgeous and so relaxing, and watch the sheep walk around outside. It is the most beautiful place - and the breakfast (which you can request IN bed) in the AM is absolutely TO DIE FOR. They also have baked goodies in the lounge every afternoon with lemonade and tea in the summer and hot cocoa in the winter.
I mean, we would go again just to go and relax - with really nothing planned to "do" except -- well, you know LOL. But there really are things that you can do as well. Believe it or not, and this was so much fun for us, NJ and PA -- that area -- has really great wineries. The wine there is delicious! It is kind of like what you would find out East. I never knew that they had wine there. And it is delicious. We did a whole tasting thing which was SO MUCH CHEAPER than out east! LOL! We bought a bunch, we had cheese and crackers, and we took a tour of the vineyard. Check winter hours but that is a great thing to do.
Also, there's awesome antique shopping in that area. I really liked just driving around on country roads and seeing the beautiful sights. There are some great restaurants too. And we did tubing down the Delaware River which, of course, you can only do in the summer. Other than that, we just did the R&R thing - which was exaaaactly what we needed. It was great. Bring wine from home with you and things to do, read, eat, in the room so that you can just stay cozy in the room and enjoy each other. Keep in mind - no TV's so if you want to bring a laptop and DVD's to watch movies in bed that is a great idea.
I would call the Inn keeper, the man, is really nice, I forget his name, and I would explain that you are doing the Living Social deal and you really want to come but ASK about the cottages - just say, I know that the deal is for the rooms that are IN the actual Inn and not the cottages but if we buy it and then when we get there any of the cottages are available can we take advantage of the opening and will you give us a deal?? Or maybe if you want to just upgrade to it see if they'll work with you... Because all of the cottages are just amazing b/c they are separate, detached, and the entire thing is yours! With little screened in porches and a huge fireplace and the big soaking tub with jets and shower - and it overlooks such a scenic pasture with the sheep. But yeah that's my advice - I would give that a try! GL!
Have fun!!! Even if you end up in the regular room, it's gorgeous! And make sure to request that breakfast in bed - what a treat!

Re: New Hope, PA?
FYI - we were able to view a few of the rooms inside the main house - and Stockton's Hideaway and Newell's Library were the prettiest, and the most spacious - they also have fireplaces. So, if you end up there, request those! HTH!!!

New Hope is really nice. There are some great antique shops, a cute play house, fantastic home made ice cream, and some really great one of a kind type stores there.

Re: New Hope, PA?
OMG I cannot believe it is for the Woolverton. We LOVE it there! Can I ask..what was the deal? I assume its over now?
We always stay in the cottages. I do think that is the way to go. I have never stayed in the Rooms but I am sure they are nice. the cottages are HUGE, HUGE bathroom with HUGE jacuzzi over looking the room, fireplaces in the room, sheep outside your windows....just gorgeous.
Their breakfast is AMAZING!!!
It is SOO expensive! When we went last summer for just 2 nights it cost us...A LOT!!
So the fact that their was a deal on it, thats great!

Re: New Hope, PA?
The deal is over. It was $145 for smaller rooms or $225 for the bugger rooms - Stockton's Hudeaway or The Balustrade.
1 Night, champagne on arrival, 15% off at the wine store and late checkout with a parting gift.
We did the more expensive one since I'd read the standard room are on the smaller side. Weekends were booked (and required 2 ngihts) so we booked a Sunday night. It was still $100 off based on what was listed online.
We're probably going to look or somewhere else to stay Saturday night. Suggestions?
DH wants to ski blue mountain but I don't think I can

Re: New Hope, PA?
We went on a weekend getaway to New Hope when we didn't have kids. I thought there was not much to do there and it was boring.
Now that I have two kids, I would want nothing more than to have some R&R in New Hope!!!

Re: New Hope, PA?
Any ideas of what to do there. DH keeps asking me what we are going to do. I said "i don't know, check outt he town". Our B&B ressie is for Sunday night and we're taking off Monday. Would like to drive down either Friday Night or Saturday morning (probably Sat am), and stay in a cheaper place the first night.
Willing to stay or go somewhere else for the first night if it's more interesting.
Any thoughts?
DH wanted to ski blue mountain but I can't do that

Re: New Hope, PA?
What about The Lambertville Station. They have a cute little Inn. You might want to check out Peddler's Village, which is about 10 min from new hope. Very cute village you park and walk around, there are tons of adorable boutiques, shops (Xmas store, clothing store, coffee shop, ice cream shop etc).
There is a few good restaurants there as well.
Sweet Lorraines is one we had breakfast in when we went.

Re: New Hope, PA?
We need a hotel for Saturday night and potentially Friday night. I checked out the lambertville inn and while it looks really nice, it's over $600 for the 2 nights. I'm looking for the $150 a night range. I don't mind it being as fa as 30 min from Stockton/New Hope
Thanks!

Re: New Hope, PA?
I saw that deal on the internet but didn't jump on it because I already visited Amish country last year and figured it would be similar to that trip..I would side with your DH on the "nothing much to do there" aspect..after 2 days in Amish country, I was kinda bored. We branched out to other local areas in PA but pretty much thought we had seen everything there was to see.

This is not encouraging. haha
The hotel we booked for our first night is closer to Philly so I was thinking of spending Saturday in Philly. DH went to college there. We could either visit family/friends or see some sights.

Re: New Hope, PA?
DH and I jsut went down on SAt and Sunday. We stayed at The Inn at Lambertville Station. We love that place. Its pricey but we went for it.
We had a kind size suite with a gas fireplace. We walked around New Hope...checked out the stores and the art galleries. then came back to the room, relaxed in front of the fire with a glass (or two) of wine. We had reservations for the Lambertville Staion Resturant that night. We had been there once before and really enjoyed the food.
We usually go down in October and do the ghost walk tours. When I booked the reservation, I had thought there would be snow and we would have just stayed in the inn, in front of the fire all day.
On Sunday we got up late, had breakfast then headed over to Peddlers Village. We walked around for a bit, looking at the shops. Then we headed home. it was a nice quick getaway

I was picturing staying cozy by the fireplace, but with this weather, we might get to do more outdoor stuff. I'm going to check out the places you mentioned

We stayed at the Wedgewood Inn on the PA side when we went. Loved it there...the food is amazing. Marsha Browns and The Landing are my two faves....lot's of little shops, a steam train, art galleries, playhouse make for a great romantic weekend. We loved it and are going to try and go again soon.
