Need pediatrician rec'ds (suffolk county)
Id prefer someone in Selden, Centereach, Coram, Mt Sinai, Lake Grove, Holbrook, Holtsville- that general area.
Id really love a small office, where the Dr/staff knows you and your children...
Extended hours/weekends; would be great but not a MUST!
I just came from the ped with my child, and overheard 1 of the Dr's in the practice YELL (and I mean YELL- not only once, but three times!!!!) at a child to sit still/stop moving (he was trying to give an immunization)- the mother was yelling at the child as well; so it didnt phase her- but it made me SICK!
I have been with this practice since I was a child, and myself and children are KNOWN there... I love 2 out of 3 of the DR's. I have never been a fan of the third and after today, Im not a fan of the entire practice...
ETA: I want someone with great bedside manner, who will explain everything. My older son has a laundry lists of illness he has had the past 4yrs (chicken pox, mono, h1n1, ebstein barr- to name a few) and tends to run really high fevers- so I need someone who will listen to and address my concerns!

Mid Suffolk Pediatrics!
OPen 365 days a year, late hours, they are FANTASTIC. There are probably about 10 or so Drs, which is nice bc there is bound to be one that you really see eye to eye with, and can see for all your well visits.
But even for last minute sick visits, really, all the Drs are wonderful, as is the staff.

I love Friendly Medical in Stony Brook. They are very thorough and helpful. They also always answer any questions that I have if I call.

I have several friends who use them and love them. If I had to switch from my current office it would be to them.

OPen 365 days a year, late hours, they are FANTASTIC. There are probably about 10 or so Drs, which is nice bc there is bound to be one that you really see eye to eye with, and can see for all your well visits.
But even for last minute sick visits, really, all the Drs are wonderful, as is the staff.
Couldn't have said it better myself. We are still trying to see a diff doc each time just to see where we stand for which we want as our primary one. They are seem wonderful so far.

Where is Mid-Suffolk Ped? Also, do you always get to see an MD or do they have PA's. I prefer that DS is always seen by an MD.

I go to the one in Hauppauge which is on Motor Pkwy ( there is one in Setauket as well)
I more or less always see an MD, however there is one NP there who is really phenomenal ( and to my knowledge, she is the only NP at the Hauppauge office) Very very thorough  ...I have never seen a PA there and don't believe there is one (but maybe some of the other ladies can chime in here ) ...

What does everyone love about their Dr's? What about immunizations- my kids are up to date but I prefer to only give 1 shot at a time- do these Dr's allow that?

Hauppauge and Mt Sinai.
I have only once seen a PA instead of a Dr there is my DS 3 years. 99.9% of the time I see a Dr.

ITA Dr. Halegoua left a very big practice Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine because he wanted to KNOW his patients. He now has a women doctor there with him. He is great. I am so happy he left the other practice where I felt you were just a number.

I also agree. They are amazing. You can request to see the same doctor all the time. AJ had a fever and we were able to bring him in on a Sunday afternoon. I go to the one in Mt. Sinai and have never been turned down for an appointment. AJ sees Dr. Manners and he is awesome. He listens to everything you have to say. He remembers your children. He remembered Chelsea loves Dora stickers and it wasn't even her appt.

We've been very happy with them. Usually with see either NP Tracy Manners or her father, Dr Manners. We've seen a few others there as well and have been happy.

You ended up switching? Glad you liked them.
We started going here when Xavier was born and love them. We see Dr Halegua. This is my 3rd pediatrician we've been to and will definitely be sticking with them!!

Dr. Nataloni in Mt. Sinai! Cannot say enough good things about her and the entire staff. Everyone there knows me and my children, asking about them by name when I'm calling about anything at all! Every reccomendation they have given me for specialist doctors have been great as well. Good luck

This is who I use too, as well as 4 of my friends. The "main" doctors in the practice (and by that I mean I guess they are the ones who started the practice) are a husband and wife. All of the doctors are gentle and soft-spoken. When I go in with the baby, they often don't even make me lie her on the table, they let me hold her in my lap so I can help them, without having to really "restrain" her for the exam. Of course, when they need her to lie on the table, they do, but if it just checking her ears, listening to her lungs, etc, they make her comfortable. You can also request a specific doctor when you go. They all know who we are, and I never feel "lost" in the practice. In fact, I went in this past week to get some forms filled out for the baby, and I handed them to the receptionist. She asked if I wanted to wait and she'd get them done for me. So I said sure, and can I also get a copy of my other DD's immunization record? She said sure, and didn't even have to ask what my other DD's name was. I've called and asked for prescriptions to be faxed, forms to be completed, etc. and they always do it right away without a problem.
Dr. Benitt is the man, and the biggest impression he made on me was when Marron was a newborn in the nursery, he was checking her out one morning, and I was in there at the time. She was crying while he was examining her. I was trying to soothe her, and I said, "It's ok, don't cry". Without missing a beat, he (very softly) said to me, "It's ok Mom, she can cry...it is how she talks to us right now." That really spoke volumes to me.
They are just off Rte. 347, behind the Friendly's across from the movie theater.

same here. Love Dr. Nataloni and her staff. They now have another dr there so it's 2 dr's and 2 np's. love them all and you can always choose who you get the appt with.

Thank you- Ill be making a few appointments to meet with some of these suggestions...
Is there like a guide/checklist of questions you typically ask when interviewing a ped?
I never did this, since I was so set on using my old ped when my kids were born...
