Need Info on Suffolk County
I am not familar with Suffolk County at all as far as school districts etc. My parents were looking at the 55 and older condos by the Court House in Central Islip. How is that area?? My mom said it was really nice lot's of nice shops etc. I think the were very close to Carraba's. TIA

Re: Need Info on Suffolk County
weird question, but if your parents are looking at developments for those who are 55 and older, why is the SD an issue?
to answer your Q, this is JMO but CI is not a nice area, and the SD is not good.

central islip is not the greatest area. if they are looking at that area of suffolk, they may want to try islip, west islip, east islip, oakdale... a lot nicer.

Ditto.
It has some of the highest incidents of gang activity of all LI school districts.
That being said, I do not think the value of homes in 55 and older communities are influenced by the quality of the school district as much because young people are not allowed to live in them.

The school district is not an issue for my parents as they are interested in the 55 and older developments. i guess i was more interested in the school district for myself. My mom happened to mention that there were also condos for the general public not just 55 and older in the same area. i thought about going to look at them, and i wanted some feedback on the area. I should have been more clear in my OP.
Thanks.

I agree. I wouldn't even want my mom living there in that retirement community. It is not the greatest area.

Re: Need Info on Suffolk County
While I agree CI is not the best area (by far), my sister lives in a private townhouse community by the courthouses/NYU and its VERY nice. Its somewhat apart from the "real" CI, and if SD isn't an issue, even better.
She's been there 3 years and has never had any problems.
Is it Islip Landing you're looking at? Thats right on the CI/Islip border and is further south than what people typically think of when they hear CI.

I think that she's talking about Pulte's Courthouse Commons? It's basically right near Islip Landing

I don't necessarily feel unsafe in Central Islip but I know a few people who grew up there and they do not want their kids to grow up there. I think that says a lot.

Re: Need Info on Suffolk County
The area right by the Suffolk County Family/Criminal Courts is a different situation, in comparison to the heart of CI. They have been trying to improve the area surrounding the courthouses by adding beautiful condos and 55 and old communities. There is a nice Target and some other shopping. Aside from that area, it is not so great. CI School Districts are not great. I work with a lot of kids from that district and there is a lot of gang activity and drug use/sale going on.
