Need Ideas: educational toys for 3 year old (preferably not electronic).
What educational games/activities can I get my DD who will be 3 next month. We aren't sending her to preschool yet, but I want to reinforce number and letters (she knows many of them already), and also start basic phonics and basic math concepts?
We have an iPad and Dd has a ton of educational apps, and she also uses the computer with my DH every weekend, so I'm not looking to get any leap frog/vtech toys.
We also have the wooden Mellissa and Doug magnet letters that we play with already.
Any other suggestions?

DD learned all of her letters and numbers very early just using simple wooden puzzles. Months later, she's lost interest and doesn't know them like she used to so I have to get creative to hold her attention. I make letters with chalk outside, with play dough or legos, print coloring and dot pages for her. I would definitely check out the M&D stuff. We have a water wow book with the alphabet and I know I've seen little puzzles boxes where they can fill in words or match letters to a picture to learn the beginning sounds.

Re: Need Ideas: educational toys for 3 year old (preferably not electronic).
DS is 3.5 he has a Melissa and Doug "Water Wow" book that has letters, and one with numbers... great for out at restaurants, and he has fun with it. he also really likes the game "Preschool Spot It" basically, its a bunch of cards and each one has a few letters or numbers in different colors on it. You turn 2 cards over and they has to find two things on the card that match like "oh! I see 2 blue 'A's", or " theres 2 blue "4's" its really cute, and fast paced so it keeps his attention. also- I think he learned his letters most from foam letters in the bath tub lol while he was in there, I would put a couple of them in the water and ask him "hand me the "A", or whatever. or I would show him one of the letters and have him tell me what it was, then I would throw it in the water with him... he loved sitting in all the letters lol and I know you said no leapfrog toys- and I'm in the same camp... BUT have you seen the "scribble and write"? basically it comes with a stylus thing... the kids pick a letter, and it has lights and the trace the lights with the stylus to learn to write the letters or numbers.

Need Ideas: educational toys for 3 year old (preferably not electronic).
Search "wipe clean workbook" on Amazon. There are tons of books that come with dry erase markers to practice counting and number/letter recognition.

There are plenty of preschool activity books in the stores; plus puzzles; even coloring books and cutting with scissors...all activities good for developing schools that they'd be doing in preschool. I also did not send DD to preschool at 3. Only sent her at 4 for 3 1/2 days to learn the structure of the classroom setting.

Thanks for all the ideas! She will be getting a bunch if educational toys for her birthday (We're taking her to sesame place for a few nights, so those water books & wipe clean workbooks will be great for the car & hotel!)
I also found a calendar activity center for a great price on Amazon, so we can do the day, date, & weather every morning! :)

If she likes to sit and do worksheets, Kumon makes great early learning books for kids.
I have found great educational ideas on Pinterest, if you search for Tot School you can find a lot.
Using lots of manipulatives is important to help develop hand-strength for writing. Things like Mega Blocks and Mr Potato Head are good for that.
