Need help fast: would u buy a house on a major st?
we saw this house we really like:
pros: newer house 2700sq 4bd/2.5baths great SD ( price is great walkable to the beach
cons: lot is smaller than we wanted on a major street*
the major street is a big "IF" on our part. at the same time, if it wasn't..we would not be able to buy such a nice and big house in this SD. this is our #1 choice for SD
would u buy it?

How busy is the street? Is it a major road with constant traffic and traffic lights?

What town & street?
It depends on what is important to you...getting into a good town and school district? Otherwise is there anything else in that town you like that maybe will need a little bit of work but in a less busy area.
As well, houses on a major street are going to be harder for you to sell one day. So...if you are looking at it as a starter home then that is something to consider too.
It really is based on what is more important for you both!
I know I must have a decent size backyard. That is important to me and I would sacrifice having a larger size house for it and being in the SD that i want! So it just depends on what the most important things are to you.
GOOD LUCK with your decision!!!!!

If it is in walking distance to the beach, will the street be even busier in the summer months? Its something to think about.
the realtor told us that it's only for residents with a permit and i think he said people can buy day pass.

Is there parking on the street? If not, how far will your guests have to park if you were to entertain? That was high on our priority list when DH and I were house shopping.

it seems that every time I see a home with a decent price that is renovated ,it's on a main road. I would have to say noooooooooo! You will be there for so long, just hold out for something you are really looking for

Me personally no. But you have to weigh the pros and cons based on your wants/budget.

Personally I wouldn't especially if children or pets will be living in the home. And also because later on, it's harder to sell if you ever wanted to. You really have to weigh pros and cons for your family. Good Luck with your decision.

No.
I grew up on one. When we were house hunting, it was the 1 thing that i absolutely wouldn't compromise on.

Re: Need help fast: would u buy a house on a major st?
not me. i am not on a "major" street currently, but more of a cut through between two MAJOR streets. Well, people suck and speed down this block too. i get nervous everytime i am out front with my kids.
when i had my dog, we used to sit on the front stoop and hang out while she sat on the lawn, she was really good about not going off the property, but i could never trust another dog the same way, hence, i don't have another...
truth of the matter is, you don't ONLY live outside in your backyard and if you can't hang out in the front and be satisfied with peace, quiet and safety, you may get tired of your house quick...
just my opinion, may not be yours. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR DECISION!!

Re: Need help fast: would u buy a house on a major st?
Most likely not. But it depends on how busy the street is. Is it going to be difficult just to leave my house to go to work? Safety issue fr children? Available street parking for guests? Large backyard for kids? Nice price tag? Other perks to offset the less than ideal location?
