Ps. this wasn't written about anyone above that offered their advice. I just saw a post where they were saying My story doesn't sound real and are questioning my sincerity Those people should be ashamed of themselves
Im sorry you are going through this. While I believe your story is completely legit, you do have to understand the history on this site. These ladies have been scammed SO many times but people in the past claiming to need help, only to find out AFTER the did give and help that they were scammed. They tend to approach these types of postings with caution and a grain of salt. Its not personal. Best of luck to you, wish I could help!

For all of you who have doubts. Stay out of this , If you can't believe a story like mine is legit then obviously your too self absorbed to know what people like me go through. So keep your negativity to your selves . All I need right now is to look for advice from those who care about people like me and those are the ones that keep me fighting

You need to get a grip. Sorry, I've seen way too many shifty people here. You only come on here asking for help. This was you last resort? A website you've never been on? If this is legit, I wish you the best but I take it with a grain of salt.

Re: need a roof over me and my son's head
Fine I understand there may be people out there that do that kind of thing but I'm in survival mode, I have a 13 yr old son, who I had after 7 misscariages at the age of 44 and I will reach out for advice anyway I can. My son is my heart. And I can't continue to see the pain in his eyes, I had no idea what this site was about when I was told about it. But I will do anything I can to protect him. I'm putting myself out there even though I feel ashamed for being in a place like this at my age. Bad things happen to good people, You just shouldn't judge everyone on a few bad seeds, I never said I wanted anything from anyone except advice, I just need to find something I haven't tried yet

Im sorry you are in this situation. You likely werent turned down all thosetimes just because of your son. How is your credit? What is your budget? If you have no family support, are you able to relocate to an areqwhere the cost of livi ng is cheaper? Have you tried any social service agencies?

Who cares how many times you might have been scammed on this site.
It still doesn't make it right to crap on this woman when she is down. She isn't asking for money, she isn't asking for anything from you other than advice. If I was desperate like she sounds, I'd be posting on every freaking site I could find to get out of whatever situation I was in.
Have some humanity. If you think it is a scam, move on and don't comment.

need a roof over me and my son's head
I have tried Social Services who turned me down saying I made too much money with my disability and my son's Survivor's benefits. and I was turned down all those times, It was mostly on Craigslist ads. Maybe it wasn't always because of my son, but it sure sounded that way, as soon as I mentioned it was for the 2 of us they would say I'm sorry, that won't work, it's too small for 2 people. but they did allow couples. As far as the rest, I've been on the phone all day and checking on new apts also, I don't have the time to keep coming back to this site. I will check in but I have too much work to do finding a place to live. right now my game plan is to go around to all supermarkets, laundromats and where ever else people may post things. I'll check in later. To all those who had compassion for me and my situation, I thank you. Your words of encouragement do help keep me fighting...

Re: need a roof over me and my son's head
I really think you should check with Catholic Charities or your local church or temple. I think they could probably at least find you a place to stay temporarily so you don't feel the pressure of eviction/squatting hanging over your head. That can't help. Sometimes they even have people who will make the calls for you at parish outreach, etc. Not sure where you're located, but the nun and people who run the parish outreach at my church (in East Islip) are super nice and helpful. Give them a call if you can!

need a roof over me and my son's head
I am sympathetic to your situation. My sister and her two kids are homeless, shelters won't take them since they are full. No landlord will approve her for an apartment because she fell behind on the rent at the last one since her ex quit paying support. Now she has a job but bad credit. It's a shittttyy and sad situation for her bouncing from friends and family. I can see her posting something like this on a board where she lives. Doesn't make her a scammer. I hope things look up soon op!
Just to add...unless you have been there, you just have no idea of unhelpful the system is these days for housing. Its easy to sit and judge from your chairs. This site is "families helping families" and she lives on LI so it kind of make sense to post here...even as a newbie ;)

not sure why so many are getting Crazy about this post. The places I suggested can and will help and. If the op wished to call them she can if not its her choices. If it is a scam and it might be all I did was give her options.

Re: need a roof over me and my son's head
Go right ahead, why don't you just friend request me I'll accept, I have nothing to hide. After that, I will stay off this site I was just reaching out in every direction and taking any advice I had gotten from friends this didn't just happen I have been working on this for months. and if someone I know tells me about a site. I'm going on it to ask for help. I don't care what you think. You have already made me feel worse than I already did and that's something I just don't need right now. If you ask, I will post a picture of my husband and baby before my husband passed, I will post a copy of our marriage certificate, his death certificate and my eviction notice. I have nothing to hide. My advice to you is if you have nothing nice to say say nothing at all, I've been through enough heartache already and if this is the way this site works, then I'll get off and never come on here again. All I wanted was to reach out to people who may have some kind of advice that I haven't already heard. You have no idea how hard this has been on me. And how there are many nights I pray that I won't wake up the next morning. then when I do, I see my son and pick myself up and keep fighting. I just don't know how much longer I can do this... I already told some friends if the sheriff comes, I will put my son in the car and drive south till I find some place I can afford,,, Shame on you all for making someone who's life has been torn apart worse than it was before I came on this site. , i HAVE NO NEED FOR PEOPLE LIKE YOU IN MY LIFE I'm . do your snooping if it really makes you fell better, As far as I'm concerned Goodbye

Don't let people you don't know get to you.
You received some good information here from people who do believe you and wanted to offer advice. Take that and look into it. Ignore everything else. It isn't going to do you any good getting worked up. Stay focused on why you posted in the 1st place.
I don't have any information for your situation. But I wish you the best of luck. I something comes through for you.

Re: need a roof over me and my son's head
Silly question because I'm sure you have tried; but what about Craigslist? I dont recall if you mentioned any family/distant family; even of your husbands to take you in for a short while until you find something. Pennysavers........Town Criers; anything.
Keep Looking; you are bound to have something fit perfect for you.
I am beyond sorry about the things you have gone thru. I think there are many people on these boards that try to be a little too Overprotective at times when its not needed. So I will apologize for them on my behalf. Let's face it. You arent asking for our bank account numbers or asking us to meet you at 10PM tomorrow in a dingy parking lot.
Dont let any form of negativity deter you. If you need help; nothing should stop you in asking.
I wish you the best of luck; there will be something for you out there. Come back and keep us posted when you do!

Unfortunately to add on to this, LI is also one of the least housing friendly places.
And from what I've seen too, if you are "couch-surfing" you are not considered a real emergency housing situation.
I feel for people.
I mean, anyone on LI can be at risk of this with how expensive things are if they lose their SO.
How many posts on here do we see of people who stay in bad marriages too for financial reasons?

Maybe you would have better luck south, or upstate? Maybe check CL but just a little bit upstate, like 2 hours?

Good point.
I'd look in more rural areas of NYS though. Lower Hudson Valley is still pretty pricey.
Maybe Western PA NY NJ border area, although there are pockets of pricy areas still.
