NAP hell

DD sleeps through the night so I don't really think I should complain but here goes:

She's never really been a great napper. She wakes up at 7. Eats breakfast, watches Sesame and goes back down at 10 for a nap.

She usually sleeps from 10-11. Then she's up, we play, she eats lunch...yadda yadda yadda.

She USED to go back down at around 2. USED TO. Even though she's tired, she's been fighting the afternoon nap. Chat Icon

She goes in and fusses and cries for like an hr. So from 2-3 it's HELL. Then, she's exhausted the rest of the day. What do I do???? Her bedtime is 7.

I have a bad napper too so i feel your pain. Could it be that shes extending her waketime again? Maybe try to put her down at 2:30 or 3 instead? I find somemes my dd is tired but not tired enough to actually sleep. If i wait just a bit longer she goes down fine and the nap length is longer.

Re: NAP hell

how old is she?

DD was the same way...dropped 2nd nap around 10months
I tried pushing her morning nap til the afternoon so the evening wasn't so "dramatic"
she eats lunch around 11 then naps from 12 to 1

Re: NAP hell

I am having the same issue with DS. He is not a great sleeper at night either. Lately he has been waking up around 3-3:30am and playing for about an hour. Problem is he goes in at 7pm and gets up by 6am. I shouldn't complain, but no matter what time I put him down at night he is up at 6! And naps....ugh. He is exhausted by 8:45am every day. I try to get him in by 9-9:30. If I am lucky he sleeps for about an hour. Occasionally 2. Afternoon naps are my personal hell! He is rubbing his little eyes at about 1:30 or so. If I put him in earlier than 2:30-3 he is an evil monster for the rest of the evening.....oh and did I mention that he will only sleep for about 45 mins in the afternoon. My concern is that he ALWAYS looks tired!

Re: NAP hell

Is she teething? My dd is doing this too. Fights either the am or pm nap. Then by 4/5 is a cranky hot mess. It started when she started teething. At first I thought she was dropping the pm nap but then would fight the am too. If we go out she has been falling asleep in the car. It is terrible. I hope when these teeth cut she naps again. Good luck. Let us know if bumping the nap up helps.

Maybe try different ways of trying to put her to sleep...try rocking her in your arms? Or more recently DD likes it when I put a blacket over us and rock in her chair in her room, or we lay in my bed and i rub her back...try those..

Yeah, that is NOT going to work. LOL. She HATES to be held. Chat Icon We have a little independent woman on our hands. I guess we made her that way. I was very strict about putting her in for naps to let her self soothe. I'm a meanie. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think she is teething like previous posters said. Hopefully once these teeth cut, she'll be better. I just spoke to DH and he said she slept from 9:45-12!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Figures...when he's home!Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: NAP hell

I found that putting them down a little later for 2nd nap worked. Used to to 11, 2, now does 11, 4
