My pool is GREEN!
My pool needs HELP!! We can't get the chlorine to absorb which is making the pool green. We have dumped so many chemicals and money into this damn pool and nothing is working. We even replaced the sand in the filter. All other chemical levels are good except for the chlorine. Any other suggestions?
It is an in-ground, vinyl, 20x40.

Have you gone to a pool place for a water analysis?
Most do it for free.
We take our water to dunrite when we need help and they are awesome.
Could it be an algae problem? Have you tried an algacide?

Did you bring the water in to get tested? We had the same problem and it turned out the water was too soft, making it green. That didn't show up on our at home tests. We bought the correct chemicals and it cleared in a day.

I just had the water tested this morning and all levels are good except for chlorine. We have added about 12 bags of shock and an algaecide this past week and we also changed the sand in the filter. Nothing is helping.

have the water tested for nitrates. A few years ago I had to pump out half the water and refill. I was told it was from runoff from the fertilizers but I'm pretty sure it was frost when we had the back sprayed for ticks. No matter what I did no matter what I added the pool was still green. Only option was partially draining and refilling. Make sure they check for nitrates not phosphates. Phosphates are in the filter and that would have been solved by changing the sand.

1. Phosphates are always a big possibility.
2. Check to see if your filter needs to be cleaned.
3. Backwash a few times a day until it starts to clear up.

We recently dealt with this and I had been using Kemtek shock for 3-4 days with no improvement in the green..I went to Leslie pool supply and the guy gave me their brand of shock and it cleared up overnight. I would bring a water sample to a pool store and try another brand of chemicals

Shock and tons of it! Get a pool water sample tested. Put your filter on high. Scrub the walls and throw the vacuum inside in the meantime. We had this happen to us three times this summer. We take care of our own pool but this last time we had a pool company come in and take care of it and the bill was something to the tune of over $200. I hope that it's not going to happen again. Good luck I hope your pool gets nice and blue as soon as possible!

Yes what kind of shock are you using?
Turbo shock is pretty great.
It's a powder
We've been using the Leslie Brand Power Plus Shock and their Green Out. They are the ones that have been testing our water. They said this morning that all levels are good except for Chlorine.
In the past week we have added 12 bags of that shock, Green Out, running the filter 24/7, vacuumed, changed the sand in the filter, added chlorine tabs. NOTHING is working.

We are having the same problem this year (for the first time in 15 years with our pool). I feel like it must be something in the environment. My dh has become an expert at pool upkeep, but this year he cannot control the green.

Wow this is so strange.
I haven't shocked my pool ONCE this season and it's crystal clear. I rarely shock it to be honest. Only on opening and closing
I use a mineral purifier so that might be why.
I would try another pool store maybe- maybe they have someone who knows more?
Where are you located?

Is yours a salt pool? We had to add salt to our pool since we have a salt system. Also another thing we've been doing is taking the pool floats out at night so that way the water circulates better. Our pool floats have been overtaking practically one third the size of the pool. Hth

Try getting a pool company to come to you. We used veteran pools. A few years ago we had problems with cloudy water. We could t get it clear. Finally called veterans pools to come out in 2 days it was all better. I now use them to open my pool it's worth the money because our water is crystal clear all summer long.

I am in Wantagh. I called someone to come and take a look at the filter and test the water for me. Hopefully he'll know what to do.

I had this problem at the beginning of the season, we were in a chlorine lock. We had to shock it and run filter for 24 hours, I had to do this several times. The pool store also told me to crush cholrine tabs in a towel and dumb directly in the skimmer. The pool has been fine all summer.

Did you get the Ultra Bright from Leslie's? We had the same problem for about 2 weeks earlier this year (same thing too - never in the past) and let the filter run for 4 hours. Then it sat over night for the algae?? to coagulate and then my husband vacuumed the bejeezus out of it.

I know!! That's exactly what mine looked like. I had someone come to assess the problem and he dumped about 20 gallons of shock in my pool this morning and by noon it was not green anymore!
