My MIL bought my entire amazon wishlist for my kids....HELP
I started a wishlist for my kids to organize my thoughts etc.
I don't want to sound ungrateful but it had ALL of my ideas on it ...santa gifts included. My MIL searched my email and found it and bought it all!
I have no other ideas for my kids!
I have almost 5 year old boy/girl twins
and a 2.5 year old.
I need alot of ideas for my side of family and santa!

I had a similar experience with an amazon wishlist and a MIL. luckily i had other ideas outside of the wishlist and other relatives will deal. i also internally battle the feelings of being ungrateful for such generosity and being like "wtf whyyyy can't you just do things like a normal person".
MILs are a horse of a different color.
Could you explain the situation to her and, more or less, ask to buy some of the gifts off her? Be like, I literally have nothing to get for my kids now that are good ideas. Can we divide and conquer? That doesn't solve the problem for your other family members but at least you can give your kids a nice christmas :)

yes you should have kept it private... BUT.. that doesn't help you now.
1. would you be willing to approach her and buy some gifts back from her?
2. what were these gifts? maybe if you list them we could have new ideas for you or ideas that can build off of the other gifts.

In the future, do what we do. Have a list for gifts you plan on buying, and a separate public list for other people to buy from. Unfortunately, that doesn't help you now....
Because I'm very sarcastic at times, I would tell MIL that you were playing a game with the twins, and they were going through the Amazon site and picking out all of the things they hated, and adding them to their list. You just didn't get a chance to remove them yet.....

Can you tell her that was EVERYTHING You had in mind and ask to buy back from her the gifts you planned to give from Santa?
That seems excessive anyway that she bought EVERYTHING!
I wouldn't want DD having all that from one person plus stuff from Santa on top of it and others.

I agree with this.
1. I'd be annoyed that she searched it without prompt -- what the hell? I'd feel like that is an invasion of privacy
2. I wouldnt want my kid to have SO MUCH. It is overboard and I would tell her that in a very nice way

wow i would be pissed!!!! i agree ask to buy back. If she refuses i would probably be nasty and buy some of the stuff anyway if you are seeing her after xmas morning lol. That is really messed up she did it without asking you first. I put a lot of thought into their gifts and there are certain items i want to be from me / Santa.

Ugh, I'd be annoyed. But I would also be honest and think my MIL would understand. Last year, my mom bought DD a gift that she ended up asking santa for. I ended up traded gifts with my mom so DD would see this gift under the tree xmas morning and know that Santa listened to her. My mom was totally cool about it, but I know it's different when it's your mom.

I don't agree with what she did because it's really just excessive BUT you should've either kept the list private for now so he couldn't search it OR don't put anything on there that YOU want to get them. I NEVER put my "Santa" ideas on the Wish Lists for my kids, the ONLY things I put on there are the things that everyone else is free to buy for them. It just makes it easier and we avoid this exact situation. Sorry she ruined your Xmas, I totally understand your frustration.

Take the Toys R Us catalog out and have the kids pick things they want. Many some of the things will be different.
I know you don't want to hear this but you are VERY lucky that your MIL did this. When my MIL ever did buy my kids things, they were always too young for their ages even after telling her what they would like.

I know you don't want to hear this but you are VERY lucky that your MIL did this. When my MIL ever did buy my kids things, they were always too young for their ages even after telling her what they would like.
Sorry, I don't think there is anything lucky about this. I think it is rude and kinda ballsy of her MIL to at least not ask if it was ok. I would tell her politely that some of those items were supposed to be from you(or have your DH tell her) and she can either return them or you can buy them from her. I wouldn't go gathering an entire new list from the kids.

oh, Im not on amazon so I was not sure what you meant. Sorry, like pp said ask her to return some items. IMO it was not very nice of her, a bit selfish. She should have spoken to you first.

I don't know if I consider this lucky or what. I do know there are bigger problems in the world so my advice is try to talk to her about buying some items and you just move on with a lesson learned. If she doesn't listen just buy them a few other things and have other family buy other things as well. They are so young they don't need a ton of gifts under the tree from Santa anyway.

a ton of games
peppa pig stuff (play house, pillow case, playdough)
ninja turtle figures
ninja turtle shirt and pillow cases
kinexts (sp?)
lego junior sets
luggage for my dd (boys already have)
scooters
bunchems
big arts and craft set
ANY OTHER IDEAS????
I got them a big doll house to share and toothbrushes from santa
I just think its odd for someone not to say
A. hey i saw you had a list are you ok if I start ordering?
B. I plan on buying alot...will I take all our ideas if i buy it all?
whatever it is what it is....
Lesson learned!
I have been so crazy with the kids and some medical stuff with me that I was easy to just put the ideas on the amazon list so I could organize my thoughts. Next year I will do different.
And I don't mean to come across ungrateful or selfish but I just find it weird. I mean she knows there are a ton of other people that buy for the kids....why not think of some ideas on your own and save a few things for others.

It stinks she bought everything you were thinking of buying but wow...she is VERY generous- my MIL bought dd a board book and a set of soft blocks for Christmas last year.
As for her searching for your wish list--I don't think it is wrong if her--I always check to see if my friends and family have wish list for their kids. It makes shopping so much easier.

Looking at what she bought... are there any other games, maybe b or c list games they might also like? there are so many games out there. I feel like there are hundreds of good game choices for them. Even zingo has like 6 variations, so if she got the main one, go for the other variations.
Also art supplies, so she got the big set... maybe you can get a bunch of smaller things and make your own basket of things it didnt include.
lego sets- there is an endless supply of them out there. choose other sets, so what if they have a ton of legos?!?
what about magnatiles or bristle blocks, do they have those yet?
is there another character/brand like the ninja turtles that you can indulge? I am sure there are other ninja turtle things you can pick up anyway.
What about personalized things for each kid? A personalized book to read, or a blanket with their name, or name puzzles, or pictures of themselves in puzzle form. Shutterfly does that I believe.
How about regular books?

I may have missed it but is SHE giving them these gifts or are they going to be from Santa?. If they are coming from Santa I wouldnt go crazy about finding a lot more gifts.
