my IVF journal!!!! LONG and will get LONGER!! UPDATE 7/14 STIMS!!
i really didn't think i'd ever be doing IVF OR keeping an IVF journal on here but i guess if i've learned anything on this journey, it's that you just never know what will happen! i've been on these boards (sometimes lurking more than posting) since 2009 and i've seen the power of prayer, good thoughts, baby dust, can have so i'm hoping that those who read this journal will send us all the good vibes you have! my insurance covers one shot at IVF (not including meds) so i'm really not sure what we would do if this doesn't work. we definitely don't have the $$ for a cycle completely OOP so please pray pray pray!  thanks for reading!!!!!!!!
our background/stats:
me: 35 years old 
DH: 43 years old
our history:
started TTC in early 2009 naturally.
july 2009--BFP ended in 12 week loss
may 2010--BFP ended in emergency surgery for ectopic pregnancy. my right tube was removed during the surgery due to damage 
november 2010--BFP ended in chemical pregnancy at 5 weeks.
december 2010--went RUNNING to dr. braverman for help/testing/opinion
he discovered that my sugar levels were high and put me on metformin and also discovered i have hypothyroid and put me on synthroid. both things are controlled with the meds.
as far as immune issues, we didn't test positive for much. i do think we have something about an alpha match? (no idea what that means) and i have some clotting issues (MTHFR gene).
tried on our own (semi half heartedly) from jan-may 2011 with no luck. in the summer of 2011, we did 4 injectable IUI cycles. the hope was to stimulate the follies on my left side (where i have a tube still) so that i had a greater chance of getting pregnant. BFN's for all 4 IUI's. i responded well to the meds and made lots of follies but never got pregnant. at this point dr. b suggested IVF.
we were SO worn out emotionally from the IUI's that we decided to take a couple of months off.
in april 2012, we had a consult with dr. tortoriello to discuss IVF options. let me say here that we LOOOOVE dr. b but decided we wouldn't do IVF with him for a few reasons. the biggest reason is that we live in westchester and both work in the city so going to woodbury for monitoring was a nightmare. also, i wanted to work with a dr. that does that ER and ET himself since i'm such a nervous nelly and wanted to see a face i knew when going in for the retrieval.
6/11/12--met with the nurse to go over calendar and meds. ironically we found out that dr. t will be on vacation when my ER/ET is scheduled so we will be doing it with dr. wang who also works in the office.
6/12/12--CD 3 bloodwork and u/s. met dr. wang and loved him.
6/19/12 (tomorrow)--fluid u/s to look at the uterine cavity for cysts, polyps, etc.
as of right now we are scheduled to start meds at the end of next week and hopefully do the ER/ET by the end of july! i will keep updating as we get started with the meds 
6/29/12--had my CD21 b/w and u/s today and all looked good. just did my first inject of Lupron. i was all freaked out to fill the needle on my own (since it's not prefilled) but i just watched a video on youtube and followed along  i also start predisone and folgard tonight. i guess we have officially begun!! oh, and i can't figure out for the life of me how to get the cap back on the lupron so if there's so magic answer to this, i'd love to know
7/6/12 well, i went for a sono today and we are basically (somewhat) stalled until i get my period. i was disappointed to hear this i was supposed to start the estrogen patch today but i have to hold off until i bleed. tomorrow i switch from the lupron to the ganirelix (sp?) so that is still on but no estrogen.
i'm not too worried b/c i feel like AF is coming but he said that if it doesn't by Wed then we have to talk about "next steps" and either we start over or do a d&c   sooooo.........if i can get prayers that AF comes so we can move on, i'd really appreciate it! i NEVER thought i'd be asking for AF prayers here! 
7/10/12 i finally got AF!! woohoo! so we're on our way! the only bad news is that with AF, i also got a cold so my head feels like it's gonna explode! nonetheless, last night i put my estradiol patch on and tonight i start e2v suppositories so for now my protocol is:
ganierelix 250mcg
prendisone 10mg
folgard 2.2mg
estradiol .1 mg patch
e2v 2mg suppository
and as always....metformin & synthroid
stims start on saturday!!!!!
7/14/12: started stims!! protocol is:
FOLLISTIM 375 units
MENOPUR 1 vial
ganierelix 250mcg
prendisone 10mg
folgard 2.2mg
estradiol .1mg patch
e2v 2mg suppository (ugh!)
metformin
synthroid
pre-natals
whew!
7/18/12i had my first monitoring appt today and so far everything looks good. dr. t said i have about 10 follies and he was throwing out sizes in the 12mm range so they are on their way! my lining is 8 and he wants it to be 9 so i'm well on my way with that too.
despite all the good news.....i fell apart in his office. i was telling him my fears about doing the IM trigger shot on my own and my fear of the anesthesia and he's just so calm and nice and i started crying. sorta like when you are sick and then somebody takes really good care of you. so yeah, he probably thinks i'm a nutcase but i'm hormonal and sorta a mess.
oh, also did my intralipids....which i LOVED! doing intralipids all afternoon was WAY better than being at work
i go back on friday for more monitoring. hopefully i'm closer to retrieval by then. they are estimating early next week for trigger/retrieval
please send lots of growth dust for my follies!!!! continuing with same protocol for now!
7/18/12 second monitoring appointment was this morning. i have 18 follies ranging in size from 13mm-16mm. dr. wong would like them to grow a bit more so i'm going back on sunday. same protocol for now :)
7/25/12 i'm updating this a little late! we went to our appt on sunday and everything looked good. after we left, the dr. called to explain that my bloodwork came back showing increasing levels of LH and progesterone. he wasn't as concerned about the LH but the high progesterone has been shown to significantly decrease chances of implantation. it takes it from something like 48% to 28% chance of working
soooooo he recommended and we agreed that we should freeze whatever embryos we can and then do the transfer later. it wasn't the best news i ever heard in my life but i'm willing to wait for more perfect conditions.
we went in for our ER yesterday (7/24/12) and all went well despite me being a nervous wreck! i was so scared of the anesthesia and everybody put me at such ease. the staff at SIRM is really incredible! and the best news is....dr. wong got 26 eggies!!!!! praying now for an awesome fertilization report!!!

I have a few extra meds left over...Id be happy to "pay it forward" we had to pay OOP for meds for 2 IVF cycles.
Ask your RE if they have extra meds in the office too...we got 1600iu of follistim for free which saved me a lot of $$$$.
Keep us posted on your progress and I will certainly keep you in my daily prayers .

awwww......thank you! that's really nice of you  i think i have everything i need (picked them up over the weekend from the pharmacy) and a friend of mine also paid it forward and gave me a bunch of stuff!
i will definitely take you up on your prayers though!!!
