My DS fell off the bed....

and I can't stop thinking about it. This morning, as my DH and I were getting ready for work, DS (8 months old) was sleeping peacefully in the middle of our bed. I went ot the nursery to get his clothes and a diaper and next thing I knew, I heard something very faint. It was like, I knew he fell off the bed...before he made a peep (crying). When I got to him, he was lying on the floor. DH rushed in too. I grabbed him and he was crying so hard, he couldn't catch his breath. I began to cry (silently). He is ok...not a mark on him.

But the GUILT....I feel sooooo bad. Is this normal? Will I continue to feel like such a horrible mother? When will it go away? And what makes it worse is, I had to bring him to the sitter because I had to be at work. I would have rather stayed home with him today!

Re: My DS fell off the bed....

It is the worst feeling in the world...DD fell off her changing table at about 7 1/2 months...She was fine, I was a basket case!

I'm better now, but I can still recall those feelings...DD doesn't remember it (I don't think) and she's fine...and I never left her alone for a nanosecond on the changer again...

So, we all make our "mistakes"...you are NOT a bad mother!!!

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Try to relax, DS is OK and that's ALL that matters. DS had one fall, he was only about 6 weeks old and I nearly diiiiiiiiiied. I literally felt traumatized, and called my BFF and just cried and cried Chat Icon That image stuck in my head for weeks, but it really does fade as time goes by.
My fall happened on HALLOWEEN of all days so even this year I remembered it as being the WORST mommy moment. It never happened again and I became insane about fall prevention, so I try to see that as a positive.
Just breathe, DS is FINE, you will be too!!!

I think it happens to the best of us. My son fell off my bed at 6 months old. I felt the same way. I still remember it like yesturday but you'll get over the guilt. It was an accident. Its no reflection of how good of a parent you are. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Aw, you know we've all done things like that. As for me, my DD toppled head first--booster seat and all--right onto the floor in a crowded restaurant (I noticed this because someone exclaimed "Oh sh...!!!" Chat Icon ) because I decided to undo the straps from the chair first instead of from her--and oh yeah, get involved in conversation Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think you aren't a parent until your kid plummets from the bed, the changing table, or down the stairs! Chat Icon

DS fell off the bed on my watch a few months ago. I think I cried harder than he did. It is a horrible feeling. I'm glad your DS is ok. Chat Icon

Re: My DS fell off the bed....

Same thing happened to me yesterday, so I know how you feel!!! My DD is 9 months and fell off our extremely high bed onto the hardwood floor and I don't even know if she hit her head, bc I was not in the room. 24 hours have passed, and she is okay as far as I know, though. DH was in bed with her and he was sleeping. She has been sleeping in bed with us bc she has not been feeling well, but i have now learned my lesson! No more bed for her!
