My birth story with pics...
Where to begin....
I was due today, August 7th and was kind of hoping I'd go sooner because I was so tired of being pregnant. However..when I was told it would happen 3 days before, I freaked out and still didn't believe it would. I had hoped to go to the pool one last time before she arrived and to see a movie (as you all saw I posted)... Of course that didn't happen. But I did get to do my hair...LOL!
On to the story:
Friday, August 3rd I went to Lawrence Hospital as per my doctors orders to have them "monitor" me. I went with as little as possible because I SWORE I wasn't going to stay over night if I didn't have to. Once I got there, I was told I'd be staying and having the baby that or the next day. I nearly  .
I was placed on the monitor and the nurse began to look for the baby's heartbeat. She had this look on her face of worry and I asked her if everything was ok. She said she couldn't find the baby's heartbeat. She got another nurse to come in with a sonogram machine to see if they could find it, and sure enough he did, but they still couldn't hear it. In that, I overheard them saying to prep me for the OR, and they had called my doctor telling him they weren't able to find the heartbeat. He FLEW to the hospital. In the meantime they decided to try one last time because the baby was kicking me. They realized it was the equipment and not that the baby was in any danger.  Of course I was relieved, but I was also puzzled as well.  My doctor came and they told him what happened and he just looked at them like they were fools.
I was given Cervadil at 8pm because I was only 2cm. During that time the contractions started coming on stronger, but I was not dilating fast. At around midnight my doctor called asking the nurses to remove the Cervadil and give me a break with Demerol so that I could get some rest. Unfortunately, the Demerol was given in my butt and it didn't really help. I hardly slept. Saturday morning the contractions started coming on stronger and I was given another dose of Demerol through the IV which worked WONDERS!! I was in HEAVEN! Later that afternoon they decided to break my water and start me on Pitocin since I was still only 2cm. Once my water was broken my doctor said it was a good thing I had come in because the baby had pooped in me and was swallowing Meconium. YIKES! As soon as they started it, I started feeling the contractions more and more and I was practically begging my doctor to give me a C-Section.. During that time my son came in and he was helping me through contractions. I found out he was hysterical waiting outside because he saw me in so much pain. The nurses fell in love with him....
After a few hours of agony, I finally hit 4cm and they gave me the Epidural, and it didn't hurt at all. OMG...is all that comes to mind. It was FANTASTIC!! I was staring at the monitor watching the contractions as they were coming and laughing..because I didn't feel any. They had decided to place a fetal monitor inside of me as well. At this point her heart rate was dropping. I fell asleep for about an hour and was woken up because I felt an enormous amount of pressure...Milani was coming out. I told my doctor and sure enough...I was 10cm and crowning. After 5 pushes she made her appearance. Turns out her umbilical cord was also wrapped around her neck, which explains why her heart rate was dropping. DH wasn't able to cut her cord because she had Meconium on her but the doctor let him watch as he did it and gave her to him first to hold, and he is in love!
Milani arrived at 3:54pm and was a whopping 7lbs 20 inches. She has so much hair and is beautiful. We are home now and I still can't believe I have my little girl....
I also wondered how it was that these women on A Baby Story look so "fabulous" after giving birth..because I was a WRECK!!! LOL!
My experience at Lawrence was WONDERFUL! The nurse who helped deliver her was such a sweet heart. I also found out I was the only one in labor that night...and had their full attention. Lucky me!!! :)

THANKS!! Turns out there was another woman who had given birth to a girl prior to me who named her Milani as well. The nurse was surprised when I told her the name...she said oh wow..there is another baby here with that name. DARN!

Thanks!! I sure as heck didn't feel great...LOL! It feels so weird not to have my belly anymore.... but so good to be able to sit, squat, lay more comfortably now.
